Want to get a lepton, but what batteries?
hello,
I am wanting to buy a hirobo lepton in the next few months, so what would be better to run on it (for mild 3d to proper 3d when I get better) 6s or 4s. Plus which one would have better flight times, Thanks in advance, Max:cheers |
IMHO, 5s is the way to go. 6s doesn't really work with the lepton gearing and available motors. 450g is about as heavy as you can reasonably go for the batteries.

I use 4S 4000MAh, no 3D, get 9 minutes flight time with about 1000mAh to spare.
Ciao, Bob |
I did my with 6S and great result. Huge power and fly like a 600 heli. The head is good for sport flying or F3C (not enough cyclic and pitch). Go FBL for 3D. Make sure you use 70mm tail blades.

I am using 6S.
Battery Hyperion G3 EX - 6S 2200mAh (45C) Motor is Neu http://www.castlecreations.com/produ...1708-1_5y.html 16 pinion http://vee73.hi.fi/kuvat/RC-HARRASTUS/DSC_0297.JPG/full http://vee73.hi.fi/kuvat/RC-HARRASTUS/DSC_0294.JPG/full I am also a bit wider than normal main gear. http://www.world-of-heli.de/en/heli-...ptzahnrad.html This combination has worked very well. The engine should be a bit smaller kv, that could use a bigger pinion. Edit: The flight time is 4:30 Charging the battery takes approximately 1500 mAh. Fly fast. I also do some light 3D stuff. |
nice, what head speed did you get? are you using stock tail pulley?what esc are you using?

Edit: Flying Weight is 1688g |
I used 6s 2100 packs back when they were only 20c and I fried a few packs in the Lepton so make sure you get higher rated batts. I ran 2650 Mah packs later with great results, even pretty aggro 3D still got 5 min. The motor was a Kontronic Kora 15-14 790 kVa with a Revco 17t pinion, pretty high headspeed. I did initially run 4s and had bogging issues which would allow the tail to lose authority, not good for learning 3D! You will need better than the stock tail blades for hard 3D too, the kit white ones are too small and soft once you start throwing it around. I think 5s would be a good setup but kind of Lepton specific where 6s can be used in other 500 size helis like Trex or Protos. Speaking of Protos. it also has a small main gear, I believe the stock Protos motor is a 880 kVa Scorpion which should work great in a Lepton, check the Readyheli headspeed calculator for the right pinion, I would suggest 2700 rpm initially, 3000 tops. I used a CC 80 Esc.

Thanks for input, so i am planning to use scorpion 1215 kv, 5s 14Tpinion, will this work? or the kv is too high?

From my experience I can tell you that more than 2700rpm 6S strain on the battery too much.

Lepton
Have you found a Lepton EX? If you haven't and are still interested, I have a new, (BNIB), I will sell. Send me a PM if you are interested. Thanks.

lepton ex specs
hi its martin i run a lepton on 4s with 20 tooth revco pinion with 880 kv motor , can get head speed to 3000 easily , but knock it down to 2500 in tx spectrum , not abig 3d flyer . only sport , rolls loops ect , i also run on 2-3s parrallel ,4400 millamps , you need t -rex500 rotor blades on tail aswell . bit of modelling here but works great . i also have carbon tail -fin and stabiliser t-rex 500 also this gives extra lift at the rear . another mod i did was to to put t-rex 550 landing gear . bit big but works great .standard is crap , my motor is scorpion , align 70 amp , rce , 6200 receiver , hope this helps i think there a great heli bit dear on parts . best not crash , 450 pro, , fusion 50 ,, t-rex sport , mcpx , dx6i , dx8 , let me know how got on cheers .:peace
