Interesting thread
While its not available yet, I plan to get a barebones L700. Here is what I am planning I already have a YGE xxtreme edition 160 HV and a pyro 800-48 17 tooth pinion Gens ace 4400 mah 7S packs ( listed at 65c) Same main and tail blades as stock Max Head speed, 2100, at 2100 there is still a bit more than 80 percent headroom using YGE gov store FBL unit Hellicommand HC3-SX Looking at the head speed calc, if the pyro 800 -48 is really 480kv (issue: I have read somewhere that its actually close to 500) then I think there is no need for a 16T pinion ( which is not being offered by Mikado). Comments?? The Headspeed calc says not to go below a certain 2079 RPM due to "voltage and efficiency" . I've not used YGE gov store so var ( I've been using vbar gov, but on this hell I won't be due to the lack of gov in the helicommand unit). Does this mean I should never go below that rpm ( will damage the ESC?) or does it only mean its inefficient so should be avoided Another question, the manual says top head speed is 2100. I have read that folks are running the L800 at head speeds higher than the mikado stated limit. What is a safe top head speed for a setup like the one I am planning. I still plan to use 2100, but I am wondering about what people are using now on the 12s L700 Comments? |

Personally, I wouldn't think twice about going to 2300 rpm on 710mm blades with the logo 700, the head is quite overbuilt.
The yge gov is similar to the kontronik in that it can run lower percentages without issue. I'm going for 2050 rpm with the same setup. |

Agreed 2050 looks good
I'll probably set modes to be 2000, 2050 and 2100 I'm might possibly getting the bundle, selling off motor, vbar and ESC. I am using the helicommand unit on other helicopters after having used vbar for a long time. Have decided to do HC on the logo 700 too, It will be a while before mikado offers a barebones 700. It was 7 months I think for the 800. |

From my own, as well as other testers on the yge freewheel, it doesnt do as well as kontronik, heat being the primary concern, so heatsink a must have if you intend running very low rpm for extended time, in comparison the jive actually runs cooler in freewheel than higher speeds. My fusionhawk with the fan on vbar gov doesnt seem to mind low speeds so a small fan may be all you need, i see the j cooler as a retrofitted possibility. Admittedly the yge sits in cool air with lots of venting so maybe ok

Yes, I have noticed this, have helis with both YGE and Kontronik, YGE ESCs are mighty nice. Kontronik - unbelievably nice
Was planning to use the 160 HV from my l800, having gone to kosmik 160 on that bird, so has the mikado heat sink. If the YGE runs too hot, may go to a kosmik 160, but that's more weight. Haven't weighed them both yet. Since packs are saddle-mounted, there looks to be plenty of room for the gens ace 7s 4400 packs. |

Since couple of you guys use pyro 800, if not rewinded please open your motor and carefully check for wire damage, it seems to be a common problem, it may or may not cause a problem but getter to fix with some hi temp epoxy or send back
http://www.helifreak.com/attachment....7&d=1354813449. Its not glue, they dont use glue. Also if you hear vibrations or funny sounds from motor open and check mags, some cases of dislodged mags have been documented, im not bad mouthing k i love there stuff, they will surely fix this up better be safe than sorry though

Not in my shop now, so cant look at it Hv Have not opened a pyro yet , does this motor have any tricks to getting it apart, or is it done like a scorpion. |

Easy just remove circlip. I found a lot of damage to wire internally as well, unseen when assembled, pics in rewinding forum under pyro 800, the kind of damage can cause havoc with esc as it can short inbetween parts on the same wire.

Mine just arrived along with Kosmic 200 for my 770 build. I'll take it apart this weekend. After reading the posts, I'm thinking I should have stayed away. Hopefully it works out.

Well if having dinged-up wires isn't enough for those of us with Pyro 800s, Kontronik released this news item today:
From Google Translate: Loose magnets at PYRO 800/850 Unfortunately, there are a few PYRO800/850 engines which was the automatic bonding process may be too little adhesive filled. In the PYRO 850 engines may be involved only engines who lasered a helicopter in the PYRO 800 motors can the series do not differ visually. If you are unsure you can send your engine happy to free check to us. We appreciate your understanding. Regarding the Pyro 850s, I believe that Kontronik is saying that 850s that are affected are only those that are designated as helicopter versions, with a helicopter laser-etched on the motor.

The germans aren't acting very german lately.
The varnish on the wire in my pyro looks like a beaver was gnawing on it. |

BTW, here's a message that Kontronik USA posted in another thread, for US customers. @NTM, I'm not sure if this applies to you guys in Canada. You might want to contact Charles Anderson. Note: Kontronik USA must receive your motor(s) by December 21! Quote:

Off course u can run it but it won't be an optimized system. Also 4525 really not the best option for 14s rather something like 4530 at least, a motor is most when run as close as possible to max rpm then geared for enough headroom. If you run low heaspeed in a flightmode for slow 3d it doesn't really matter as you're not after max power. With the 4525 you're better off leaving it 12s

You say not rated to 14s but scorpion says max RPM 24,000 PYRO 850 max RPM 25,000 yet these are for 14s? I spoke to scorpion they said keep below 24k and will be ok, so if i run 14s will the motor will be spinning closer to 24,000? Just looking for the most efficient options i know mikado recommend 12s but that is so people who have 700e machines can share packs, if they said 14s less people would buy it maybe i dont know?

Well I didn't say not rated for 14s I said kv too fast for l 700 there are not enough pinion Options to my knowledge
Pyro 850 much lower kv. The max rpm Is a guideline only and more for bearing longevity than anything else also its a small motor better suited for 12s as to get kv low enough for 14 s it needs more windings, since space is limited the only solution would be higher pole count to lower kv and then your yge won't work anymore as its switching frequency limited to 132000 on 2 pole
