So I am trying to get into the hobby of RC helis and am still somewhat new to it. I recently purchased myself a copy of Phoenix 4 and got a Spektrum DX6i to go with it. So with this said, i'm sitting here with what could be probably the most useful way to learn the hobby, yet I don't know what to do with the controller.
I understand the joystick's, and that's really it. I believe that "F. mode" is to keep full throttle on and "throttle hold" is to keep the blade's from spinning. And i'm not even sure about this much. I guess the first question i'm trying to ask is what do the switches mean such as what I said or other things like "flaps (white)/Gyro (Orange)". Next question, how can i get them to work on Phoenix. For example, "stunt mode" is bound to my keyboard, and as far as I know, it's supposed to be using the switch that says "F. mode" the switch. If anyone can help me with this or knows a thread that can, please help! Last edited by sgtdan707; 12-18-2012 at 08:33 PM.. |

Getting a sim and DX6...great way to get started in this hobby!
I'd really like to be able to answer your questions, but you've hit on a very complicated subject that doesn't have a quick, easy, and short answer. Throttle Hold, TH, yes, that prevents your motor from spinning your blades. Although you're just flying the sim, it's a good idea to get into the habit of hitting TH when you're about to crash. When you start flying a real helicopter, hitting TH can prevent a fair amount of damage, so it's a good habit to learn early on. Flaps/Gyro, depending on your heli and your setup, the gyro switch is generally used to toggle between different gyro settings, ie enabling/disabling heading hold and/or switching to different gyro gain settings. Check out the newbies forum, the sticky I'm about to link has some good info in it, including a couple videos on setting up a DX7, which I think should be fairly similar to your DX6. There's also a video for pitch and throttle curves, which should address some of your questions about flight modes. http://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=52530 There's also a forum for Phoenix, if you don't get answers to your phoenix questions here, try asking in that forum. I don't think you need to do anything within Phoenix. Once you get your DX6 flight modes programmed, I think you can just use the FM switch. Hope that helps...welcome to the worlds greatest and most frustrating hobby

Thanks. I was wondering why I was getting any replies and I can understand why now. I appreciate your help and knowledge. I actually did get the curve set for the stunt mode so I can use the radio to turn it on now as well as throttle hold. I also got a link to a youtube video showing how to set up the gyro and all that good stuff. Also thanks for telling me about that thing with turning it off before the crash. That sounds incredibly useful. Your knowledge won't go to waist!
