Yes, so I believe, but I tried strapping my 500mm equipped SLR to my cap and it hurt my neck.

I watched both vids again earlier today whilst working on the 450. Liked the continuous piro work too.

The crash reminded me of what Grants sig used to say. From where I'm sat, it's funny Grant should come back and comment on it later in the day. If you don't crash, your not trying hard enough. You are definately trying hard enough doing that stuff

My dad is into his photography in a big way, and his advice to me when buying camera's is always the bigger the lens the better.

Well, I agree, the bigger the lens, the better.

Now, as far as the GP goes, I've been watching vids from the Black, and they are impressive!
Yes, you'll still get fisheye, but this can be seriously reduced by narrowing the field of vision.
Would I buy one? Well, if I didn't have a GP2 I would, but I'm not going to upgrade it.

The biggest advantage of the Black is the frame rate, absolutely outstanding. So, if you're interrested in slo-motion, this is the ticket.
In your case Sutty, I think it would be of some interrest to explore.
One thing for certain, with either the GP 2 or the Black, you will not worry about the heli being out of focus.
You can get some really good deals on GP2's right now.

Me, I'm more interrested in a larger camera to replace the GP with. Something like a Nex5, or the soon to be released Nex6, or the new GH3.

Tom, but your hexa won't lift ILC camera like Nex5 with its gimbal, will it?

Nope, that would require a new frame.

I have always been saying that all my heli related purchases were in fact motivated by my willingness to sacrify in the name of science and for the betterment of the humanity

No good though, they're still not in stock in the stores in Dallas airport , they continue stocking only the silver version. I think there was a hickup with the release of the black Hero3 and it caused chain-reaction in the distribution channels

Somehow I'm not surprised
I'll stick with GPH2 for now, something tells me I was good this year and Santa will want to reward me with F550 hexa.

As if there isn't enough pressure on a maiden. Oh well, I'll see what I can do. Didn't turn up today, and my tracking reference doesn't show anything up yet with the carrier, and yet one guy for sure has already received his. If I had gotten mine today, I would be working on it now.

Do you mean you have a vbar already, just waiting for a heli? If you do I don't blame you for holding off. I should have held off too, and I have no idea what came over me when all my helis are already FBL. It just means I have a MB spare now. I guess I'll have ot buy another heli to go with it?

Still, I have to say I am looking forward to the challenge of learning all about the VX1. Someone already said it looks simple enough, having read the online manual. I did the same, and thought, Jesus, this is going to be a tough ask to get my head out of MB mode. Like I say though, a fun challenge.

When I maiden, you guys will be the first to know, as always.

Cheers

That promise still stands Problem is they didn't have the black edition at the airport yesterday, so now I'm back home GPH3-less trying to figure out my work schedule for the next couple of months. Looks like the black edition has already started shipping, so I'll order it soon and send it to my brother's house again. By the way my schedule looks I probably won't put my hands on it until early February, so maybe I'll hold over the ordering till mid January to catch a next credit card billing cycle...

Hi Ragge, Well look, I just had that one pack, and as I said I was bricking it. One thing is clear though, out of the box it did not fly as well as the MB, however, it is also clear that it has the potential to fly much better. Don't ask me how I know, I can just tell.

The issues I had were predicted in the manual, and even though I was shaking like a leaf I could tell that it was more stable in a general hover than my best set-up MB. The piros were perfect, and the general feel was very nice.

As for the set-up, I don't think I would be lying to say it was about ten times harder. Even though I had already experienced FBL with the MB, I can remember how hard that was. Maybe it is my old age, but I was at it for a solid 8 hours. Granted after that time I was convinced it was good to go, but honestly , there were so many things that I found myself thinking why this, why that. On the forum I got accussed of over thinking it, and they might have been right. Basically, if you follow the set-up guide, and do not deviate, even when it seems counter intuitive, then you will be fine.

Sunday I am going to fine tune the two small issues I have, and assuning that goes the way I expect, then I can already say it will be better than my MBs.

Bold claim I know, so early, but I can tell.

Cheers

Nice flying once more, Andy. And you did this all an the maiden flight???
I even managed to notice the tail-comp overreaction you mentioned, but the autofocus drift is nauseating indeed

Tom's found the GPH3 black for a very nice price:

http://www.fpvmodel.com/gopro-hero3-...tion_p459.html

It's already ordered and on the slow boat to my friend's place in NYC, so I'll get my hands on it around the first week of February

Thanks Jerry, and I promise you that was my first real flight, so yes the maiden. It had been in the air, briefly, but just to see if the tail gain was right. It was set to 30 as default, I tried to take off, but it wagged on the fin like crazy, so I knocked it down to 25. I tried to take off again, and it still wagged on the fin. I knocked it down to 20, and when I tried that time it had a quick small shudder on the fin, but I persisted and put it in the air and it was stable. I landed after only about 3 seconds in the air, as I was just making sure I had the gain in the right ball park ready for the proper maiden.

According to Spartan this low gain is the likely cause of my tail issues. I had far too much mechanical gain in the tail system, which was evidenced by the travel adjusts on the VX1, which should be above 200, when added together. Mine was a lot lower. This wasn't in the manual, but is apparently common knowledge it would seem for gyros in general. It just wasn't known to me lol. I knew you had to adjust the mechanical gain sometimes when having trouble, but I didn't know about the values to check it. Angelos says he is going to add this to the manual.

The elevator de-bounce gain is a setting, which is described in the manual as having been set low for safety, as when it is set too high it can render the heli possibly unflyable. You have to approach it from below at no more than 10% increments until it stops. So this was known and expected. When I do a proper tuning flight, you know the sort, when all you do is fly, watch, land, adjust, fly, watch, land, adjust, and so on, I will be able to change this very swiftly.

As for the camera, what gives there then. Some sort of special model? How can it be $300. Grrrr, I very nearly paid the full UK price, which seems like it is fixed, always at Ł359.99. In the end I didn't because the Vortex came out and stole the money I'd set aside for the camera, but also because I hadn't had Jerry's review.

As always though, Tom and Jerry to the rescue. Tom finds it at half the price and Jerry promises a heli style review by early February, by which time I will feel okay at spending the money again as a month or so will have passed. Can't fault you guys.

Cheers

That's what the friends are for

If you look closely, $300 buys you GPH3B battery-less, the complete package is $320, but standard international shipping is included as a Christmas special . At the airport would've cost me almost $440 with Texas sales tax, their loss.

Ah, that expalins that one then. I suppose if it has a lot of common accessories with the earlier models then that type of product is just like upgrading your camera body. Good idea. Since I have no accessories to start with, I guess I'll have to get the full blown one, but I'll wait to see what you have to say about it in February. Thanks again Jerry. I think it is inevitable that I end up with one, as that Bloggie is just the pits, as you pointed out again. Wouldn't that have been nice to have my VX1 maiden in sharp focus, and crystal clarity, instead of the rubbish that I had.

Cheers

Exactly. What's unclear to me whether it comes with a waterproof housing from fpvmodel.com. It appears so, but not really clearly stated. If not, it's a $50 accessory everywhere else, don't know why they want $100 for it. The housing is different from GPH2, all the other mounting accessories are the same and I have a ton of them, so I don't really care whether they come with the package or not.
