1st Crash report!!!!
Ok my heli finally had an unhappy meeting with mother earth.
Was totally stupid but I take full responsibilty. Was all going well when I decided what I was doing wasnt good enough, and with the light fading thought that practicing piro's(really fast piros) was a good idea. Well it wasnt and I ended up nose in after one rather impressive lightning fast piro and then promptly forgot how to fly. Think I was just dumbfounded that I ended up nose in and watched my heli hit the dirt tail first rather fast. And to top it all off totally forgot to hit thottle hold until my main gear was well and truely stripped. Oh well had to happen sooner or later. Parts broken are the usual suspects, main shaft, boom.flybar, bearings on the tail drive gear are notchy and a broken stabiliser so not to bad in all. Here are the photos. And wouldnt you know it, had all the prats except for the flybar BUGGER!!!! Darin

Love the canopy, got one of those myself to match the 600
Luckily damage doesnt look too bad at all. I would leave the tail fin as it is, just pull the broken bit off (i used to replace them every time the got a crack, but the more you crash the more you realise theres no need to change it). It looks like you own a hobby shop with all those spares!!!

Lol I thought you were talking about the T500. Glad it's only the 450. Not glad you crashed but out of the two it's better that than the 500
Darin, try and get a video of your flying. It sounds like you have improved loads since your last video. -Jonny

Have improved quite a bit.
8 are nice and tidy now and working on some piro moves. Wife wont come and film otherwise there would be some footage of the crash. Grant I like to keep most spares just in case, also I get paid bonuses quarterly so stock up on things when I can. It's only a light hit and the only parts I dont have are the flybar and bearings for the tail drive gear. Problem is I can put any of it back together until the bearings turn up as had to split the frame to get them out. Darin

That is one of my concerns with the search for higher head speed. Can the bearings hack it??

The bearing was so bad that when you gave it a spin it is like it is spring loaded and self centering. I think it is past it and it made a horrible noise when I put the main gear in, this is how I found it.
Helihathnofury, You could try for a bearing upgrade, apparently the ceramic BOCA bearings are pretty good. Darin

Bearings can be really expensive for high performance ones. But you gotta love bearings They are like little magic dougnuts that keep all machines running for a long time without causeing wear
They are small bundles of joy, just like us lot Sorry, I am happy. (Not drunk) -Jonny

The bearings will cope with high head speeds fine. I'm still using the standard ones with real high headspeed and very hard crashes

Thats funny, I had a very similar incident Sunday evening. Except instead of just watching it hit the dirt my left stick went towards 11:00 until she was upside down. Then hit the dirt head first. I still dont know why I pushed the stick up there.
I almost think that saved me some parts cause all the damage was contained in the main shaft area. My list was; Blades, fly bar, main shaft, feathering shaft control links and one blade grip. The good news is my new Microheli gear and SG90's seem to be in perfect order.

Those yellow align canopies stand up pretty well in a crash actually - ask me how i know
Just took the 450 out for a quick flight, nothing special. Took it up in the air, a couple of flips, then some fast tic-tics, then i was tryiung out some piro tic-tocs, and they wer going well. By this time i was climbing up pretty high whilst tic-tocing of a big tail slide. It had fallen from about 100ft up and when at about 30 or so i tried to pull out of it and nothing, couldnt spin the tail round (was held rock solid lol) no cyclic, couldnt change pitch or shut off motor. Then over an 8ft wall it went and SLAM! that loudest crash ive had, full speed into someones paved patio in their garden Once it was retrieved i checked it over and the receiever still had solid lights on, so shouldnt have been a lockout for any reason, the scorpion commandor ESC doesnt seem to work any more, although all servos and tail seem to be working ok straight after the crash (i didnt unplug it first). Will try and get some pics up - not happy!!!!!

on further inspection, the speed controller is working - i think i still had the tx on throttle hold after the crash. Is it likely that the flybar twisting 90 degrees would cause the effects of no cyclic control at all? Although I'm sure the tail didnt work aswell

Sounds like a right foul-up there Grant!!! You implying that one of the paddles came loose from the bar and rotated?
Have done 4 batts this am/pm, but has just started to drizzle here, so, end of day!! mike

Well the entire flybar has rotated, so both paddles are pointing straight down. Its twisted slightly before, so i have super glues it in place aswell as the grub screw - So i'm guessing thats what happened again.
It doesnt look really bad in the pictures ive taken (will upload them in abit) but all 4 frames are pretty well twisted, so much so that the motor is poking out the bottom of the heli abit. The motor is at a really wonky angle so the motor mount may be wrecked aswell. A couple of links on the head have pulled apart, the flybar cage also needs replacing. Might look out for the EXI frames again, they have stood upto some abuse so far!!
