Tom, this is a very funny distance for older farts like us: car istruments is where I was consistently finding bifocals falling short. Also the PC screen, as I have a big 32" one on my desk so I tend to look at it from about the same distance. Transition lenses with a third intermediate distance have solved this problem 100%, they just were a bit of a pain to learn to use: you have to move the whole head rather then eyeballs to track an object.

Checked it Jerry, and I would say it is 4 feet, or about 1.3m. This is what I did. I put the heli outside, looking out over the lawn, and I put the goggles on in the house in front of the TV. I then put them on and off, physically toggling the view if you follow what I mean, and moved backwards and forwards in front of the TV, until my perception of where the screens were appearing didn't seem to change, as I toggled between the two. At this point I removed the goggles, and found myself roughly 4 feet away. Not too easy to get perfect, as the tv was widescreen and the goggles are 4:3, but I tried to imagine the surface of the screens as opposed to worrying about the shape or size, so hopefully it will be right.

Perhaps this is more than car instrument mid range, but maybe it still classes as mid range. It certainly explains why the mod has worked for me, because as I explained, my eyes are good, with a single prescription, from anything outside of about a foot, right the way to infinity. It's only when things are nearer than that where I have to go to the bifocals.

Cheers

Sutty
