Default 800 motor

There also is a KDE 395 kv motor which is being advertised on their website as "coming soon".
which should fit easily if its the same size as the 495 kv and be very powerful. But somwhat heavy.

Issue with the Scorpion 50 Series you may not be able to get an 11 T pinion to fully engage the main gear.... the motor hits the elevator servo.

I reconfigured to the stock 164T CNC main gear and a 10T pinion with a 4035-500 Scorpion.
But I'm also turning 880mm mains.

The 50series 450 is working on my other helicopter with an 11T pinion, that one will be fitted with 980 main rotor blades, but the cyclic configuration is completely different from the 700E.
DTS.. also swapping out the cyclic servos for a HV set

First question is what motor do you recommend? And is this the correct pinion for the V2 I need from your website ? ALIGN Mod 1.0 Motor Pinion Helical / Slant Gear 11T/ M1 H55071 T-REX 550E/ 600E PRO/ 700E
Thanks,
The motor I am running is the HKIII 4035-450kv with the 11t (55071). works very well. If your not going to be doing med-hard 3d you may want to go down to a 330-400ish kv. this will be even easier on the power system, and ALIGN has 3 pinion sizes, 11T(H55071), 12(stock) and 13T(H60225). so you do have a few options. As far as motor heat, the scorpions are rated all the way to about 400 degrees F. so if your scorp is below 200 its fine and well below threshold. the ALIGN motors can not take nearly as much heat/abuse as the scorps in my experience.

Hope this helps..

Dave, how do you think the Align 470kv motor will hold up with the 11th pinion. Should I be planning on a new motor?

KV is only RPM per volt, it does not dictate power, only RPM. To find out the power of a motor you will have to look at the specs, this will show the wattage/power. But remember not all motors are created equal, some have higher efficiency than others. this can make finding out what motor has more power harder than just a wattage number. From what I have flown and seen, the HKIII motors are performing better than the align motors. HKIII 4035's come in 330, 450, 500, 530, and 560 KV's.

I would say if your not looking for high headspeed, or tic tocs and piroflips, and you want nice long 7-10 minute flights, grab the 330 and try the 13T, that should be good around 1400-1600. Those numbers are just my guesses, but they should be close. You may want to calculate for yourself.

4035-400 and 450 seem to have the same specs, hopefully the power out of the 400 is good,I like to tic tok.I guess ill find out soon enough, waiting for my frames and blades to show up

I did not think that scorpion made a 4035-400kv. The new HKIII jumps from 330 to 450. Also the newer HKIII's do have better efficiency and power than the older HKII's

A friend of mine moved the elevator servo to the back, instead of the ESC tray, it works great for him, that could be a solution for a bigger motor.

Default 800 motor

AkaMullen, that was a very nice video in the "why a 800?" thread (hint). Maybe since you have a new motor, I believe you were flying the Align at the time, you could share another one. Also any advice on setup would be great. The Align seems like a beast of a motor other than it bogged easily with the big 800 blades and got hot easily. I'm not quite as good a flier as you and haven't flown my 800 a lot but wondering how happy you are with the Scorpion power.

Thanks for all the advice, Alden

Thanks, but I was really quite taken on that first maiden with the 800mm blades. I was watching more than flying..lol..
was flying a HKIII 500kv in that video with an 11T @ 1700, the 450kv with the 11t runs WAY better as now its geared close to where it should be.

akamullen,
How does the Scorpion HKIII 4035 motor compare to the 700MX, power wise? Is it a noticeable upgrade?

Edit:
Never mind. I see that Dave already answered this question on a previous page.
