Default IR issues with MPA board

Hi Guys,

Need advice. Got a PL8 & its working fine with Para adaptor boards
but it can only handle 6S. Decided to go with MPA as it can handle up
to 8S. Heres the problem, when charging 7S, the last cell would measure
9 + Mohm & if I para charge it would read 14Mohms. Thought that my new
14S packs had a bad cell. Then I tried charging 6S in single & para charge.
Same thing happens, cell 6 read high IR. Spoke with a friend who runs the
same set up & he doesn't have any issues. Charger is new with V3.31.
Decided to re update firmware but still the same. Would appreciate if
somone would kindly advice. Btw also clean the contacts but to no avail

Thanks

What wiring mode are you running in?

What really head scratching is that if charging 6S it will be the cell 6 that reads
high & when I'm charging 7S, cell 7 will read high.

Thanks

Had the same thing, last cell when charging single 6S battery off MPA (their 8S paraboard) was registering high IR. I seem to recall somewhere around 6-8 milli ohms. Don't quite recall exact amount. Anyway, checked with Revo and it is a "feature" with their paraboard. If you charge directly without the board it will not show up. I forget the reason. Something to do with single/first battery and maybe controlling the board. I was told not to worry, so go fly! (that last bit is me)

Geoff.

Hi Raptorapture,

Trying to look for a solution. I love the charger & revo lipos.
Yes it does not affect charging but a product should not have
such so call "feature". What's the point of being able to read the IR
of the cell from the charger if the board has a problem in allowing
for proper reading. If it is a "feature" it should be brought to our
attention & we ourselves would decide if it is something that we
can live without. As for me, I would like to monitor the health of
each cell. Its gives me a piece of mind

Thanks

This condition can be caused by using the wrong wiring mode. The default is FMA wiring mode and it needs to be changed to JST-XH wiring mode if has not been done already. Last cell high IR is usually associated with this condition. First cell high is associated with contacts needing to be cleaned.

See the FAQ at the top of this forum for more details.

Hi Gregor,

Thank you, problem partially solved. Reason, now the last cell is reading
the lowest regardless of which pack I charge.

I thought there was also a firmware revision that helped this problem. Could be a faulty memory though!

oops, I see you already updated the firmware!

Depends on the contacts. For my Anderson Power Poles I used isopropyl alcohol with Q-tip. Deoxit would have worked better, but I didn't have any handy. I did this on all pack connectors as well as the charge leads. All of my APPs were fairly new, but I still managed to blacken a number of Q-Tips. Similar process would work for one side of the EC5s. For the other side, perhaps a dribble of Deoxit might do the trick.

I haven't checked to see how conductive Deoxit is. So be careful getting a lot on both the positive and negative. I'm probably being too cautious.
