Default Engine/fan runout. what is ideal amount.

Can i ask what the limit of runout is ok at the fan.
Also the gauge i got was metric so i am not sure what the measurment should be,i read that a good start at Imperial is .002" ???? BUT no figure in metric.

My gauge measures metric and inches. .002in on the gauge equals .05mm If you can keep your runout .002 or less you will be fine.

Yes, as Pinecone says, "ideal is 0", but for those that don't live in a world of perfect (which is usually me), I try to keep it below .003 at MAX. Generally I'm around .0005 - .002, which is acceptable IMO. I've heard of guys having it out by as much as .006 and still being fine.

Suppose it is out of these limits. For someone who doesn't know how to dial indicate and fix an out of round fan, how do you do it??

It depends on the setup.

In my video, I show the tapping method. If it is a collet setup, you can also just rotate the hub 90 degress and see if that reduces the runout. You can do this 3 times, and pick the best one.

a poor video but gives you an idea how to do it.

ps - when you dial indicate, don't clamp your motor case in a way that will bend it, like I do in my video.
