Default Wow...ok new question

Well fired her up today and just after the skids left the ground the engine slowed then died. Took her back to the table and pulled on the starter and sure enough- locked up. Took the pull starter off and turned the crank lug by hand and it was stuck hard. Tore the front off and pulled the motor. Amazingly the piston and sleeve have just a couple of fine lines, but the bearing between the crank and connecting rod is way shot....it has at least a mm of play, maybe 1.5 or more, and when turning the crank THAT is what is locking at certain positions. Looking at horizon a new crank and con rod are about 60 bucks, gaskets are cheap, crank bearings are 7 bucks. Guess I will rebuild...wish I had just bought a new engine to start with (got this "new" one on eBay for 200 bucks). I do wonder if it is something I did...I never ran it lean unless maybe it had an air leak between the carb and insulator (just made a gasket for that last night after realizing it was missing)...I used 32:1 mix and it smoked just a tad, and intermittently 4 stroked. I guess I don't really have a question, just needed to rant lol.

I have a question after all...when you guys rebuild these do you grease the bearings, or use rebuild lube...or ATF...or 2 cycle oil? Thanks.

Do not use grease when reassembling your engine. Use 2 cycle oil to coat everything. Grease will not clear out of the bearings and it will not allow the oil/gas mix in to lube them.

Default 6 million dollar heli

Parts are all here....it will be better than before...we have the technology...

Engine is rebuilt with new crank and crank bearings and new upper Conrod bearing. Have a cnc carb insulator with Teflon gaskets...hwc ignition box (bought that on an impulse...it will directly accept 2s lipo and according to scuttlebutt I guess it is easier on the batteries). Also have a smooth-as-butter metal trex 600 tail and a lynx moas fuel clunk. I think I like working on me more than flying em....which is fortunate since I tear up so much lol.

Do you have to mod anything to use the Trex 600 tail? You're flying a G20, right?

While I do love tinkering/working on them, I am not sure I would say I enjoy it more than flying.

Ted
I have not yet flown it with the trex 600 tail...the screw mounts that the link balls screw into on the trex grips are longer than the g20....I am so far using the g20 slider and the links are on the balls at about 45 degrees, if that makes sense. It feels great, and I think it will work, but I may get a trex slider just to be sure. Yes it's a g20.

Man wish I had enough experience with the gas platform to help...shot in the dark- do you have good gaskets on both sides of the carb insulator? Air leaks seem to do weird things.

What battery are you using to power the EI unit?
Is it the stock EI unit or the RCXcel unit?
What do you mean by"Crank for _eeeeeeeeeeell"
