It was not a kit. Its a scrap build 500/550 main frame with a 4mm rear drive belt. I have the pulleys to setup for 6mm rear belt once I install the new 550 tarot boom. RC-Tec i2 is making a custom boom block for it once he frees up some time. ( hopefully ) This low profile head well give me more room to re-cut the step in the main shaft for the lower bearing block. This head well also save me from making blades grips as on this post they said the X5 blade grip are 12mm root. So the X4 main head block with the X5 grips would work nicely for me.
Tarot makes the same line as Align its just finding sources for the kits and parts. Please read my Sig....... I'm not an Align fan as I see a lot of helis out there are better. I love the TDR drive line..... Would love to do a custom TDR drive line heli. Just using the drive line with a Direct to swash servo set up.
Align parts are just easier for me to get at the LHS. My next heli well be a Gaui 550 or there new x5.... I wish I could see both the 550 and x5 side by side every veiw of the heli. I thought about the one for sell in the forums.....but the price is about the same as I can order a new combo kit. I just need the basic kit as I have everything esle i would need . Maybe this coming summer I can start one.
I know the power I'm getting out of this Tarot custom is nuts........Scorpion 4020-910 with 3-3s 3000mah battery's, Ice2 HV 80 ESC. I pull 37amps on a hard drive pull.... Thats the highest amp pull I have read from the ESC. Head speed was 3100 start with a 2800 finish. I have lowered the speed to 2800 starting. I have the power of an 600 class with the weight of a heavy 500.

If Align put their name on a pile of dog crap stuck 2 blades in it and packaged it in a super combo, people would get in line to pre order. I just dont get it

Thanks - I only asked as I have a Tarot 450 Pro and a number of clones that are gradually changing into Tarot's, they have a good balance of value and quality Just like Gaui

Ya the new Tarot 450Pro v3 FBL super combo from them 239.00 WOW what a price for a great smaller heli.

Witch of the Gaui heli's do you like.... 550H or the X5 lite ???? I like the rear belt drive makes it easier to do a strech platfrom.

I have 2 x 550 - one with 550mm blades, the other with 500mm blades (and a shorter boom), the 550 is the most flexible and versatile heli I know of - 3 boom lengths, 4 blades sizes, almost infinite gearing options etc.. However it is now 4 years old and if I were coming to it afresh I would get the X5 - I will at some stage, probably when I run out of Hurricane spares.

the x4 head is available as a set of parts -
http://www.flying-hobby.com/shop/fes...st-p-7888.html

and the x5 grips are in stock too.

In getting ready for the flying season, I did something I meant to do last year. The nylock nut on the jesus bolt for the X5 head stuck out too far. I ground it down as far as I dared for testing and it worked good. Well today, I replaced the nut with one from my plastic frames. Works great, no binding anywhere. It's a shame it's 29F and snowing or else I'd test it out.

Vas,

What would you say are the main differences in flying behavior between your Low Rider Hurricane and your X5? If I purchased an X-5 would I be able to move my X4 FBL head over as long as I changed the grips? Also, is the main shaft 8mm?

Thanks!

I was going to start a new thread . . . . . but I always come back to this thread and I have for some time. A well overdue project after this original thread started but here goes. . . . I have recently converted my TRex450s to FBL and built an HK450V2 5bladed Head FBL. Now I have just converted my 550 Hurricane to LOWRIDER FBL, all helis running ZYXS/3.5/3D Soft stock settings.

LONG LIVE THE HURRICANE!!

Installed:
- X4 Head block
- X4 Main Shaft
- X4 Washout Assembly
- X4 CNC Stop Button
- X5 CNC Main Blade Grips 208343
- X5 Washer pack 208781
- Main Blade Grip Extensions
- TRex450 1.8x34mm Titanium Turnbuckles
- Long balls on the upper swash for the links to blade grip extensions
- Red 95 grade Dampers
- Plus a stack off spare bearings, dampers, shafts, spindles. . . . . .enough parts to build 5 heads.

Thanks to Torana74 for starting this thread, providing such great information, making this build a dropin plug and play head conversion. . . . . .the Hurricane always lives on. Flight tests went without a hitch straight off the bench. My next project is to FBL my SDX50 over the xmas break.

Default Has anyone tried the Gaui X4 stock head and grips?

Just wondering if anyone has converted their Gaui 425 or 550 FB Gaui to FBL using the stock Gaui X4 II FBL Rotor head Assy (8mm shaft) with the standard stock Gaui swash, using BeastX? I know the X4 grips would not support the 550 blades, but should work with 500 size blades, if so, were you able to get the Blue light with this setup using BeastX? Thanks for any thoughts, Dave
