Default Trex 800 tail wag

[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g6ZihL07TE0&sns=em[/ame]

Please help with any suggestions. It is a compleatly stock 800 with an ikon flb. I have turned the gain up and down. There is a chirp when the tail wags but I have not been able to find any rubbing.

Any questions please ask.

What is the head speed? Sounds pretty low. I'm running 1580 with the gain quite high and at that RPM the wag is very, very slight when in a hover. Down below 1565, the wag was bothersome. How does the blade tracking look?

The gear ratio is 8.4615. 110T main and 13T pinion

Is the pitch the same on both blades?

That's exactly what mine did!! I was able to get it under control but only after maxing out my gain and p gain in my helicommand. I also ordered 700 size Chinese weights for the tail. I didn't have any tail binding at all so its not the mechanics. Mine fish tailed like that in a hover but held fine during maneuvers.......maybe bigger tail blades???

Nu, blades with different pitch can cause tail wag?

Good point about the tail blades, and yes some blade/heli combos will be better than others. I don't think the amount of pitch will matter. When you are in a hover there is not allot of pitch being used. Check the balance and try a new brand.

I have been using the Edge blades from day one with no issues.Tail nearly perfect. And yes, I have seen some helis prefer different tail blade brands.

Tail wags are some of the most troublesome things to diagnose. I had a friend who had Gaui X7 with a constant wag, he replaced everything in the tail and it didn't fix the problem. It turned out to be a tail rotor shaft out of specs, he tried three of them before he got a good one

Should I go a few mm longer on the tail blades? Will we have enough room to keep from hitting the mains?

There is about 30mm clearance between mains and tail now.

That tail will have more than enough authority to hold in any situation, specially in a hover. I feel that there are other factors at play here. Binding or Resistance under load somewhere or P or I gain settings. The stock tail blade grip bearings are junk and if not seated properly, which they rarely are, will cause tail issues.

The two Trekkers here have rock solid tails. I mentioned earlier that the Edge tail blades made a noticeable difference in my tail performance. I've read that their air foil is better suited for the higher speed tails.

Have you tweaked your P gains?

Yeah, my tail gyro gain is at 90% and my p gain is at 18 out of 20. It seems to be holding now but I'm still a bit nervous with having to set both gains so high.......maybe ill try the edge blades. Did. You also put edge blades on. The tail.

I'm only flying the Edge blades on the tail. Edge main blades will be added in the future.

How does the tail sound/hold during fast inverted tail first hurricanes? Or even fast backwards flight. I just built and set up a Logo 700 Xxtreme which had a very slow tail wag only in a hover. Ended up lowering the gain to get rid of it.

Oh ok I thought you added the 813s for mains. Did you go with the stock size on the tails? That's what I'll do too then.......tail seems like its holding so far. Can't push it yet as the weather here sucks. I'm done till the spring I think. : (

Yes that is the correct gear ratio. I have my gov set up in the castle esc and the gov gain is now set to 20 rather than 25 as before.
