GPS Deck: Upright compared to Inverted
Has anyone noticed a difference in the set deck level when flying upright compared to inverted?
This is probably due to my nervousness with inverted flying, but the heli seems to reach a lower altitude before the deck kicks in when Im inverted compared to upright. I have soft deck set to 10m. Upright seems to hit the deck at 10m ok, but inverted, on my first test flight, I seemed to get to around 6m before the heli started to rescue and flip over. Any thoughts?? I suspect its just me and am going to try cs+invert for a more confident flight next.

Couple that with when inverted it has to swing the tail around BEFORE it climbs above the deck, and yes, it can get pretty hairy. I would NEVER put my 700 on a deck lower than 10m as it's pretty obvious that's about the minimum space required to swing the tail around successfully without clipping the ground. |

Thanks. I still need time to do more testing. The upright altitude rescue seems pretty consistent for me though...

Yep, same experience as above. I just got back from flying today, and was playing with hitting the deck just for fun on my last pack. Sometimes it would catch pretty high up, and other times I could get through pretty good. This was using hard deck and not soft deck that is supposed to help with that issue though.
If you have a field monitor, connect up and lift the heli and watch the altitude. You will see that although its pretty quick at changing values, it does lag behind sometimes just a bit, and even sitting on the ground it might say i'm above or below ground a little and fluctuate back and forth between the two This is never enough to stop it from actually rescuing before hitting though, so I think its just the physical limitation of how quickly the unit can detect barometric changes. Your could always raise to 11M to give you a little extra padding if it worries you too much.

Agree about lag and slight inaccuracy, but do you notice a big difference between Rescue altitude depending whether upright or inverted.
I realise it will take longer to rescue from Inverted, but I am talking about the altitude at which the Rescue is first triggered and begins to take control.

=] Nick, my preproduction unit had a hole drilled in the front case to show the led light status, this needed to be sealed with clear tape so as not to upset the sensitive baro's from the rotors downwash,
you mentioned the gps dome was loose on the unit, would this explain the upright and inverted discrepancies you are seeing? ie, seal it off and test again!

Cool idea Georgi. I shot Art a quick email too to see what he thinks before I start adding sealant to the gps.
i did try the altitude with heli on my 5m balcony and lcd attached. Read correct in upright and inverted.

Makes perfect sense Georgi. Just thinking what i have lying around to seal up the dome temporarily to test. Maybe blue-tak putty stuff would do the trick. Dont want to jam glue in there in case i need to send the unit back.
I assume the baro must have a vent hole somewhere for it to operate??

=] 'o' ring fitted to the dome base or tape perhaps?

I have the same problem. In fact, 700 of the first goblin fell. I've set 10 m. I got 700 new Goblin. Now set 22 m. But sometimes if it goes down to 10 meters.

Could it be an illusion as to where the disk is relative to the unit?
Presumably the trigger is the position of the unit in 3D space...so in your eye...the dish will be lower when hitting the hard deck inverted. It might really seem like a lot depending on how fast this system reacts? Just a thought from a newb. obi
