Very nice, looks great. I like how you incorporated the orange from the boom into the paint scheme. Gives it a nice flow from boom to canopy.

The glass like finish is something I marvel at.

My first attempt at finishing a blank canopy. Nothing fancy, not my own design, just a water transfer. Have to start someplace! I don't have grommets installed yet, this was just a loose fit to see how it looked. (this was my first heli too, so please forgive the monstrous wiring and skids on the wrong side...I'll fix that at some point )

I'm still trying to find a good quality blank canopy (Trex 450 pro V2) because the ones I have (Fusuno) seem very flimsy compared to stock.

That came out great. First Heli and you are already going all out, with custom canopy and all.

Thanks! I built the heli back in March, so it's not brand new by any stretch, but it's my first and I still consider myself somewhere in the late beginner stage. That's one of the things I love about this hobby. So many different aspects to it, and so much to become proficient at, whether it's flying, customizing, or whatever. And, of course, SO much money to be spent! I was looking at the cost of just a basic spraygun/airbrush and compressor setup, and the cost of capable, middle-of-the-line equipment would run about as much as that heli itself!

Here is my canopy for my 120sr. It was a clear shell and painted on the inside. It was inspired by all of the great work on here. I am looking forward to picking up a few more larger helis to do some more custom painting.

Painted on the inside?!?! How did you manage that with such a small canopy?

Thanks. Yeah I struggled with that for a bit and then I decided to cut the bottom of the canopy off in order to get to the inside. After I painted, I glued the bottom back on with CA glue and taped the joint for reinforcing. Once the bottom was off, I was able to get to my liquid mask and get in for the detail work. The shell was so thin that I could bend one side out of the way while working on the other side. It was one of the smallest paintjobs I've ever done.

Where did that water transfer come from and how can I get one?
The one in post #367 (this one---> https://www.helifreak.com/showpost.p...&postcount=367)

You'll find that particular transfer film here: http://www.pihydrographics.com/index...products_id=54

Click on their logo at the upper left of that page to go to their home page, where you'll find a lot of info. They have kits in the MyDipKit section of their shop, but for me it was cheaper to buy the MyDipKit paint/activator spray cans separately instead of in a kit, and buy a few shorter rolls of transfer film from their main shop. That gave me film for three different transfer patterns and two different base coats for about the same price as one complete kit with one pattern.

It's not cheap. Shipping cost for the transfer film is horrendous compared to the cost of the film itself, so be prepared for sticker shock when you see the shipping cost of just the film. I think it's a neat way to do a custom canopy but I'm not sure that I'm saving any money this way.

Search YouTube for "water transfer" or "hydrographics" and you'll find many videos on the technique.

Here's another example, without clear coat because it's going to be a do-over for me. I messed part of it up but the nice thing is being able to put another coat of base color on it and just do it over again if the transfer film doesn't get on correctly. I don't think I'll be flying this canopy where there is a heavy background of trees, though

OK, thanks. When I first saw "water transfer", my brain was thinking the decals that come with model cars and such. (which now that I think about it, those are water slide decals) I have seen the process before, it is really cool and finished products look really good. I have never seen the skull sheets like you had used. Might have to give it a try myself. Oh, and by the way, awesome looking canopies!!
