How to remove bearing in tail rotor holder?
How do you remove the bearings in the tail rotor holder? I haven't done these yet but have the parts and need to. Main bearings were easy to remove and replace, but I don't see how to do these easily, and without damaging something.
If there's a thread, point me. I couldn't find anything by searching. Scott

These have been a problem on the newer style PRO tail blade grip assy. It seems Align decided to start using bearing retainer on the grip bearings.
I have one that the bearing came apart on while trying to tap it out from the other side, leaving the outer race stuck in the grip. Another guy had the same problem and ended up dremeling it out with a very small diamond mill. Said it came out pretty easy, but did leave a small groove in the hub bearing seat. I also have some other ideas, but of course had to replace the whole grip assy!

You'll need to heat it with a heat gun... the bearings will drop right out. It's an old trick that's been around for a long time.
You'll need to do the same heating process when you install the new bearings also.

Heat is the trick. Those little bearings do tend to be a bit of a pain to get in and out.

Heat, not hammer. Much thanks. Will give it a shot. Scott

I heat it with soldering iron then hammer and a small hex driver.

I and a few others have tried heating it with a 140W soldering iron and was not able to get good heat transfer through the bearing. So thats when I took a small hammer and a 3mm rod and tried to tap it out. That usually works, but it seems Align is now installing the tail grip bearings with bearing retainer. Never had that much trouble with tail grip bearings before. I've since purchased a mini torch for the next time I have bearing removal problems.
This was specifically on the Pro Tail blade grips.

A torch will work, but be careful when using it... You may run the risk of overheating the metal causing it to fatigue or mis-shape. Heat gun works best for things like this, it's much more controlled.... and it cost less than a torch.
Don't just "do it"... do it RIGHT!

A torch is a little overkill, way too many WATTs. An 800W heat gun is more than ample.

I remove the grips and put them in the oven at 200 degree Celsius for a while.
A light tap on the bearings and they usually fall right out.

Will a 1,200 watt hair dryer work as well as an 800 watt heat gun?
I'd rather save my pennies for cool stuff like flight stabilization gear rather than buy a heat gun... |

No more lighter needed to shrink heat shrink tubing, main bearing block bearing removal becomes a breeze. I too was apprehensive about the purchase but after seeing the cheap price I was pleasantly surprised at how versatile it is. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

How to remove bearing in tail rotor holder?
Will a heat gun melt the wire braiding like the light will?? I found my braid melts before the heat shrink shrinks

You can pick up a hobby heat gun for about 20 bucks I think.I picked a hanger 9 for my airplanes covering. It gets a lot of use I believe its a must have for any electricle or sodering kits.I shrink wrap everything even automotive ect.Love it.
PS...A little inside tip best place to get your shrink wrap braided sleave wraps and electrical cable orginizer.com save you some dow before the hobby store gets a hold of it

How to remove bearing in tail rotor holder?
Read this thread because i had to change the bearing on tail and main rotor grips on my Trex 500 pro
I opted for the oven version and it worked out OK a few times I had to put the parts back in the oven , but at the end it worked out OK with a little hammer I think I will buy the original align bearing because I think the other brands would disassemble themselves with the hammering thanks for the info's |
