600sx set up questions
Considering 600sx, anyone flying on 7s?
Originally considering the 550sx for 7s setup but saw a used 600 I may consider either flying as 600 or shrinking to 550. Mostly for sport/big air/ mild 3d. Daily practice, longer flight times. Looking to keep as single pack, I have 1120 kv Xnova motor and Jeti esc I will be running from my 570KSE i recently sold and looking to transplant into something different.

For what its worth I'm running a 550se which runs 600 mains. 1100kv 5000 6s set up for sport/smooth 3d. 1900 head speed 11* pitch which doesn't seem like much but it does move pretty quick. Loving this set up 5.5 min flights of stick banging if I want coming down at 3.75 per cell.
I'm actually "learning to fly" not just smack 3d all over the place with out crashing my Goblin 700. I bet a similar set up 7s would yield longer flights. Killer heli's, I'm sure you will be happy with which ever you choose. |

Looks like I'm going to have to go with 550Sx and stretch to Se config.. After further research shrink/stretch, etc, all the different configs. Other then boom length/dia. the Main gear is different as well. Since I am looking at a used kit and contemplating my options, my best bet will be to stretch a 550SX rather then build a 600 SX, because of my motor/esc/lipo config.
The 550 has a 153t main and multiple pinion options as opposed to the 600 106t main and 11t pinion. Wanting to run Xnova 1120 kv on 7s at around 1900-2300 Am I correct? The options are very nice but can be confusing if not diligent to research. Also think I will get the 5mm boom and clamps, and cut boom to 550se length to give it a beefier look

Sounds good, my limited knowledge is that the SE models are for smooth 3d. Do some research if you plan to stick bang at high hs.

But with the 106 .1mod main gear on the 600sx, and my motor (1120kv,7s) headspeed too high. Looking at a used 550sx or a 600sx, going to have to go with the 550 and convert to SE. so It will have the 153 main gear.

If you got the 600sx I'm sure you could find someone who would trade you a 153t gear and mod .7 pinion(s) for your mod 1 gear and pinion.
I might be interested in that myself.

Did not make purchase yet, getting ready to. Just trying to get my info correct to be sure I'm making correct decision. One of the nice things I see with Mikado is the "swap ability"

I agree the swapping configs is great on the logos.
I got a 550sx used but it was changed over to 25mm boom. It was a strange config because the boom was 702mm and I don't see that listed for any logo. But the belt length (686xl which is 550se belt) was right for the boom, I ran a few flights on it with 550 blades while waiting for the 550sx tail pushrod. It also came with the 25mm cut down boom and normal 550sx belt so I switched to that, since I run 550 blades. I don't think I would go back to the 22mm boom (or 20mm for 550se), just looks too small to me, I got used to the P Max huge boom.

The 25mm boom gives the most options since it can be cut to fit any length belt you want. 600 grips are beefier and can support higher head speeds. 600 size canopy gives you more room up front for battery placement as well as supporting the use of the longer 600 skid pipes. 600 main gear is stronger and generally supports more gearing options. The hub supports either gear so 500 gearing can be used if it works out better. 600 counter bearing and motor mount is 30mm spacing with 6mm shaft. 550 uses odd 30mm spacing and 5mm shaft. Only the mikado edition 4025 and one KDE motor fit the stock 550 arrangement.

The xnova 4025 1120kv shaft C also fits the 550sx.

Hey Rick,
I've been flying a 600SE on 7s for a the better part of a year now. Powered with a 4035-560 and a 12t pinion I get 10-12 minute flight times with head speeds of 1150, 1300 and 1450. It's extremely relaxing.

Recently stretched my 550 sx to the SE with edge 603's but 25 mm boom as well.
I settled on 6s 1900rpm and easily get 6 minutes. my boom is shorter than the 600sx which I fly also with 10s and 623 blades. 550 now SE is Very relaxing but far more stable and visible and autos way better than in 550 form.. Pretty much all win imo. |
