Finless - HELP......

I am building a 600ESP and at the head setup stage - I have leveled the swash but now find that the washout arms are way off from being level - I had to shorten the control rods to the flybar cage from 10.5mm (between links) to about 4mm - almost half the length - this can't be right, can it?? This then sets the head buzzing at full stick (swash limits are set to 40% in the Futaba tx).

Because the heli has an elevator arm, I guess that here is no point in shortening the bellcrank to swash links?

Anyone have any idea where I am going wrong? I didn't have this problem when building the 450, 500, 600NSP.

Bob,

In your electronics install video you mention using some fuel tubing on the frames to prevent chaffing. You suggest shoe-goo to hold the tubing in place. I have tried and the shoe-goo does not stick to the silicone fuel tubing. Were you using a different fuel tubing or treating it in some way? I've tried several things with no success.

No.... just regular tubing and goo..... Sometimes there is a white powder on the tubing. Make sure the tubing is clean. Also it's not like it GLUES it to the frame. The shoe goo sticks to the frame and makes a lip that the split fuel tubing shapes and can hang on to.

Makes it for easy removal if you ever need to.

Thanks. I've lost the tube twice now from my 450. I just tried some 1/8th inch (i.d.) automotive vacuum hose I had and it seems to stick. I'll fly it and see how it works. Thanks again.

PS I just went through all your build videos looking for tips like the one above. I was trying to figure out the order of your builts. I finally figured it out. Just look at how full your tube of shoe-goo was and put them in order.

There is an ESC setup vid in the 450 build thread, the procedure is the same for the 600's ESC.

Here's a link:

This is not a video showing complete assembly but is an over of the system. Installation should be the same as belt drive and should be EASY following my build videos below as it is like the belt drive and tail assemblies
Trex600 Shaft Drive Overview (55 Megs)

The regular build vids are below

Check out the announcement video here:
Trex 600 announcement video

First up:

Kit Contents Overview
What's in the box!! (18 Megs)

VIDEO -> Steps 1 and 2 - Blade grips and head (18 Megs)

NOTE! The flybar supplied is now 440mm instead of 400mm as used in my video. Please be aware of this for the measurements I give for paddle distance!
VIDEO -> Step 3 - Seesaw and flybar (50 Megs)

VIDEO -> Steps 4, 5 & 6 - Head, washout, and swash plate (20 Megs)

VIDEO -> Steps 7 & 8 - Main gear and frames (25 Megs)

VIDEO -> Step 9 - Tail Drive Assembly (10 Megs)

VIDEO -> Steps 10 & 11 - Trays, Motor mount, and Control arms (20 Megs)

VIDEO -> Steps 12 - Landing Gear (9 Megs)

OK folks. At this point for ease of video purposes I am skipping steps 13 through 16 (tail and tail rotor) and going to 17 servo install and head set up. I will return to these steps near the end.

VIDEO -> Servo Install and linkage setup (44 Megs)

VIDEO -> Head and link setup (30 Megs)

VIDEO -> Installing the motor and setting the pinion (15 Megs)

VIDEO -> Installing the electronics (38 Megs)

OK I will now be going back to page 13 and doing the tail of the heli and this will include setting up the servo.

VIDEO -> Tail boom, tail case, and tail shaft (30 Megs)

VIDEO -> Tail pitch slider and tail hub (22 Megs)

VIDEO -> Boom supports and fins (22 Megs)

VIDEO -> Tail servo and gyro setup (35 Megs)

OK basically that is it! I hope you all enjoy the build vids and please feel free to give feedback!
The below vid is just some final comments nothing big. I moved the ESC to the other side of the heli due to the antenna routing as I did this build without the skids on and after placing the skids I realized it was not good to have the ESC close to the antenna.

VIDEO -> Final comments (6 Megs)

VIDEO -> How to mount the flight power 4900 to the Trex600 (19 Megs)

Well I hope you all enjoyed this as much as I did doing the vids!

Enjoy,
Bob
Hi Bob I'm building 600 esp and the bearing blocks are metal, should I open the caseing and use shoo glue on the bearings or is that just when the bearing are incased in plastic?

Shoe goo only when bearings are in plastic. For bearings in metal blocks some use green locktite to secure the outer race of the bearing to the metal block. In my opinion that is optional and depends how tightly the bearings presses into the block.

I just got me a T-rex 600ESP this week. I looked at all your vids and most of it helped me out a lot, except that the ESP has a torque rod instead of a belt, and most bits are ally!!

Thank you very much, this has made it a joy building my heli! Now I got to go see if I did it all right lol!!

If you look at the list of vids the Torque tube is there as an update. Also my Trex600 Nitro videos will help on other ally parts.

How do you separate the two gears that came assembled in step 7?

One thing ESP builders should note:

The bell cranks on the ESP model are 180 degrees opposite to those in Bob's video, so his guidance on servo directions is therefore 180 degrees opposite too.

Back then I did not do flight test videos... I didn't and still don't fly that great to be trying to show people how well a heli flys!

But so you know... It's a Trex! Flies good and about the same as my Trex600 nitro only difference is it is electric. BUT knowing what I know now... 8S PERIOD... 6S is just too damn hard on packs in my opinion.

Thanks for the quick response. I,m back after a 5 year furlow, and your build videos have been a great help....Thank You. My new 600ESP will be here tomorrow, I,m like a kid on christmas eve. (Roll out the red carpet for the UPS guy) I,m grounded from full scale planes until December due to a heart attack, and this is my third heli since may. 450, and 500 so far. Get it on the ground in one piece, and your a great pilot.

I am new in this hobby, though I read a lot and have already PheonixRC flight sim to practice on; should I start with a TRex 600 right from the beginning? I saw that most people's first purchase is a 450. Are there any serious drawbacks not to start big? Thanks for your help/advice

The bigger heli's are easier to fly, but are more expensive to repair. Your Choice!!!
