Setup--Help with r7008/CGY

I have created a new model in 18SZ radio and receiver seems linked (solid green)--cannot get any stick connection/movement with servos attached to GCY750 FBL--
1. CGY stays on home screen when turned on--according to manual I should be seeing a heli logo (do a loop), on the CGY screen ??
The CGY does move through all the menus normally, when using the tool.
2. Can't be sure if R7008 is in mode 2 (SBus)--it came in mode 1 (I assumed a system that touted SBus would have the SBus port (#8) enabled). I know how to switch to mode2 (2-blinks with red light) and then hold switch again, but after reboot it always displays mode 1 again if tested.
What steps/conditions might I be missing?
