Default New 9188 not working out of box...

I just bought a 9188 tail servo for my turbine's tail, brand new out of the box it doesn't work. I also bought (3) 9180's, they work fine when plugged into the same receiver channel. Any idea, or do I just have a bad servo?

If memory serves me correctly, the tail servo needs to be plugged into a gyro or flybarless controller that is programmed for the servo. Something about the digital.servo and the pulse width of the signal. Something like that. It won't work plugged directly into a receiver...

Hopefully that is the problem. I plugged it into my tail servo connector coming from my gyro, but that is on my other heli with an older Arcomax gyro, maybe that isn't compatiable with this servo. I'm still waiting for my Helicommand to get here, hopefully it will work with that. Thanks for the reply.

I would suspect either the current gyro is not compatible with the newer designed digital servo or you would need to change a setting. I think on my vbar I choose the option for Futaba's 9256/bls251 servo as they require the same pulse width (I think it is 760).

I remember I freaked out when I first plugged mine in but once I selected the correct settings all was perfect. I run a LV LiFe battery with the 9188 on the tail and JR servos on cyclic. The tail is noisy sitting on the ground but flies great and is very smooth in the air.

OK...I'm still waiting for my HC3SX to get here, your probably right, my old gyro probably isn't compatible with this servo. Thanks....

I just tried to contact outrage on my noisy and notchy sounding tail servo also (9188). Its on my Goblin 770, and I have about 30 flights on it. It flys fine but not smooth on the bench at all. Trying to contact Outrage but having no luck.. Have you taken it apart and tried lubing it?

Sorry Scott for hijacking..

Makes sure you set the servo for a 760 center pulse and not a 1520.

It's noisy. That's just the way it is. Don't take it apart.

Sorry for the lack of an update, I forgot about this thread. My 9188 works fine now that I have it plugged into my HC3SX and the pulse set to 760. Maybe a little noise and notchy, but the 9088's are too. They seem to work fine.

Yup, notchy and noisy on the bench, flies perfect... No need to take them apart.
