Default DSLR Viewfinder camera setups

Hi all,

It's been a while since I've visited the forums so I thought I'd jump in with a question.

I've been using the live video feed on my D700 and D3X to provide video for the downlink. This introduces problems with shutter response, battery consumption etc, so I'm looking to install a small viewfinder cam.

I only seem to have 3.6mm lenses, which are far too wide. How many of you use viewfinder cams and what do you find to be the best lens option?

Cheers

Griffo

Thanks Loprestty. I'm more interested in the lens than the camera itself.

You want a 12mm Griffo (look at the index in the yellow box.)

There is also another solution. I use a zigview. This clips directly onto your camera eyepeice and has a live video out and its own lithium internal battery. Its really designed just to give dslr users a live view like a point and shoot. Works a charm!

ZIGVIEW Cost a fortune, all you need is a spare eyepiece, small CCD camera (20X20mm), for me a 12mm lens works, some tools and wide heat shrink tube ,find a way to attach the CCD to the spare eyepiece ,heat shrink them together (so no light will come in) and Walla... You have a dslr viewfinder camera in less than 60$

The hardest part of the instructions above is attaching the camera to the eyepiece. The attachment should be made so that camera can still be focused (lens rotated). Still the mounting should be very solid to prevent vibration. Any good ideas or pics on this?

I found a 12mm lens to be just a tad too narrow for a Canon 350D. It's OK for framing the shots but it would be nice to see the exposure data, too.
