Hi, take care of your lipos and there is no need to worry.
Only use a lipo charger Unplug from the charger as soon as they are charged. (The charger should stop charging when the battery is full anyway) You can also buy 'lipo-safe' bags to keep them in.

Lipo's are only dangerous if abused... then they can potentially catch fire. As long as you're using the correct (included with this heli) charger and the lipo pack is not damaged in a crash, it will be fine.
However if a lipo is damaged in a crash and "puffs-up" then by all means don't take it inside the house or put it in your vehicle as there is a potential fire hazard at this point! And lipo fires are HOT! Crash damage would basically amount to the pack being deformed in some way from a physical impact. It may not puff-up immediately, but within 5 to 10 minutes a damaged pack can start to get puffy (they actually blow up inside like a balloon, with the outter wrapping getting puffed-up like their's air inside the pack... it's from a chemical reaction going on in the damaged cells). It's also highly recommended that you never charge a lipo unattended or on a flammable surface (such as on a tablecloth or bedspread). Now, you don't have to sit there and watch the thing as it charges, but do stay somewhere nearby and check on it periodically. I found these little packs charge rather quickly, though I haven't timed it yet. Also after a flight give the pack 10 minutes or so to cool down before putting it on charge. Don't put a warm pack on the charger, it's bad for them. Just use a little common sense and all will be fine and dandy for many charge cycles. If you're really concerned then get a lipo safe charging bag (they're fireproof)... I normally charge mine on the edge of a ceramic bathroom sink (not that putting water on a lipo fire will improve the situation, cause it'll only make the fire burn hotter I've read, but because the sink itself won't catch fire!). - Michael |
