This method is simple and reliable and fool proof .. No matter Nitro , electric or gasser

One this to remember , there are two magnets on the diametric opposites of this main gear , one north up and one south up.

One tip, leave at least an xacto blade or two worth of space between sensor and magnet , as the magnets are so thin that if the sensor is too close , it will pick up both magnet North's (or South's) giving you half the desired rpm.

Thanks a bunch! I really like the idea of 1:1 and no fuss.

So I was just thinking of allowing the two magnets to attract together and then "mark" them to get perfect N. S. poles for each. Does that sound reasonable or is there a better way?

Thanks again!

Don't know which gov you are running but some won't go down to a 1:1 gear ratio. Just check that on yours to be sure.

Ikon will take that 1:1 .. but yes definitely check the governor settings, before modifying

Yeah, I'll be running the iKon/Brain Gov so sounds like I should be good.

Can the magnets just be epoxied to the main gear or do you all recommend drilling and "embedding" them into the main gear?

It is better to drill a little so because of G forces the magnet doesn't just fly away and by no way can it be tugged on something while gear is going at 2000 rpm

Better make it embedded into the gear

Made some progress today figuring out why the MSH gov was not getting along with my 700 gasser. After pulling the logs off the heli, it was clear there was some signal uncertainty and the heli would switch between throttle curves and gov. Some logs didn't even pickup the sensor.

I'm going to buy two sensors and parallel path two ideas, picking up off the main gear, as well as the flywheel.

I've noticed some people are pulling the signal differently, hoping you gents might be able to give some advice on proper orientation. As modeled I have the sensor pickup normal to the surface of the flywheel.

I've seen them, tangential, normal and perpendicular Curious who's played around with gov sensor placement, to get the best signal.

Hi, going through my break-in period and all seems to be well with reading off the main gear. Brain 2 HD logs confirm Gov Engage consistently and headspeed ( 1,400 - 1,600) is stable.

Two magnets sunk into the Lynx main gear and Align sensor. Did cut a bit of the metal away to get to sensor to the gear and fit a bracket onto the sidewall.

What I currently have setup is very similar. I have some M3 cap heads on order that I will chuck on a lathe and drill out the heads to install a magnet in, as well as a new sensor on order.

However, all of my other heli's pull the signal before the gear reduction and the gov works really well. Interested to see if there is any merit to the higher sampling frequency.

how come no one is using a stator gator???

i understand with the ikon, the governor port only puts out 3.3v, so all you have to do is pull the red wire out of the stator gator, and run it to another open port to get the minimum 5v. i have spoken to stator gator, and they have told me full 2s lipo is no problem for the stator gator.

at least i will be doing this in the next few days..so i guess i will let you guys know when i finally maiden my g770c gasser! 8/15/2016 should be lift off day.

well at least for me, the SG proved unreliable. I owned two and they both failed. I switched to the GV1 sensor off the flywheel pole faces on both my gassers and have had no problems since.

Default Great you're marking this!

"8/15/2016 should be lift off day."

I logged all my maiden flight days of all my 4 gassers and today I celebrated 4000 flights at IRCHA for my first gasser, ,maidened 9/22/97. Keep track of your fuel tanks that you run through it, its cool to see those stats as the years go by.

I remember reaching 1200 flights after 7 years, 7 months and some days, I posted about that on runryder. I also remember celebrating 3000 flights with Peter Wales at Joe Nall. We cracked open champagne then just like today and celebrated at the MA booth with the owners and friends.

Happy maiden!

-=>Raja.

Picked up some cap head screws off McMaster, chucked them up on a lathe and opened em up to accept a magnet.

Came out ok, I tried breaking the head in a scrap part but the threads stripped before the head gave out. I guess we will see if it solves my issues.

Very cool to hear you celebrated with Peter whales raja. 10 years ago I flew a turbine for him when I was a younger man. As well as Dr Tim. Great people.

Sowa, I like what you have done...I hope the SG is reliable for me..if not I have a gv1 available that has been sitting around for 10 years.I would have to regulate it tho...since your in mt view, did you ever fly at Bayside? I know it got shut down unfortunately. Also, do you know Dave Neves? He thought me to fly helis way back when...I think he's still in the hobby. Throwing names out there, I flew with perry kavros too..hell perry got me into helis after I stopped by one day at Bayside he blew me away watching what he could do with a heli.I know perry was flying a rmax for someone doing atomonous work. Trip down memory lane!

OIC, they changed the name to Axon. Well that certainly looks good. The issue for me is the same as always: will the gov work on a gasser and with what sensor mounted where. Its nice being able to sense off the flywheel poles rather than having to glue magnets somewhere. Not all sensors and FBLs seem to be able to work that way. I understand that my needs are a very minor share of the market but "they are what they are".

The rest of the modernization stuff is all well and good but I think a lot of it is more keeping up with the market:

vibration analysis: the old BD3SX did fine without it. Just like ESC logging, I, rather fly than agonize over a bunch of data.

android: fine but PC's are easier for me to use anyway.

I am sure the usual suspects will jump on it and be the "early adopters". To be honest, I have been spending more time recently doing F3F slope soaring. Flew in 38 MPH wind last weekend. Now there is an old school adrenaline rush for you.
