Default Whiplash Turbine - Updates

The original Whiplash has a couple of areas where improvements help. One of them is the T/R drive system.

One of the team pilots, Jason Wade came up with an idea to use metal t/r gears very similar to those found on the Century Radikal V2 although larger. He and Tom Welch and Doug Darby were all running them

Tom as you know contributes to this forum and has made a variety of improvements to his gas helicopters. He was willing to make one more set of these special T/R gears to put on the turbine model.

The gears are stock parts but there is machining required to use them as well as making new tube drive ends. But thanks to Tom the Whiplash Turbine now has a relatively bulletproof T/R drive system

check out these amazing looking parts!

These parts look great for use on the Turbine conversion but would also suit our regular Whiplash's if they were to become available.Especially now that there are no spare bevel gears in stock anywhere.

What are the chances of these gear sets being made in any quantity?

well they could be made but just the raw gears are about $80 before any machining is done. It would be an expensive upgrade, I'm not sure it would be worth the investment to have any made as I doubt many folks would be willing to pay for them given the parts availability of the rest of the helicopter

Any chance of getting the part numbers and supplier of the gears for the do it yourselfers out there.

Default Turbine Fuel Vent Plumbing

Hi Carey

What a magnificent machine!

In your fuel vent installation, you advise
Quote:
"The fuel vents are plumbed similarly, use a T fitting to connect the two tanks to a common vent line that drops down by the tail boom".
With gassers, you recommend rolling the vent tube into a coil to minimise the risk of losing fuel when flying inverted or to prevent fuel syphoning out. Why isn't that required for the Wren turbine fuel system?

Regards

Acrow

hey Acrow, well you can if you want however at full power the pump is pulling the fuel out at a rate of about 6oz per minute so there's a pretty good draw on the tanks

from what I've seen with the model flipping, rolling, inverted, no fuel has been able to escape out of the vent

I haven't made a video but Peter Lilliegren has made a couple of them

here is one of them that I was able to find quickly

the model is very smooth and works perfectly. Now that MA has a V2 version of the Whiplash Nitro about ready to go parts would be readily available for it

Azalin and slawdog20220 like this.
