Default Antenna placement

What is optimal antenna placement?

How is this?

Basically you want the leads 90 degree from each other and clear of the carbon frames. Note that only the yellow un-shielded part is active. The rest is just to provide means to get the the active portion clear of signal blocking obstructions.

The routing you have should work well but it looks like the yellow/active portion has been shortened. This should not be changed. Maybe it is just the angle of the photo.

Crap! I found the broken off sections. I appears that my cats found them interesting and one of them chewed the ends off of these!

Thanks for catching this. I guess this receiver is toast now

Not quite toasted but I would find my cats a better toy
Send the receiver to Esprit and they will replace the antennas. I believe the charge is $10.

To be clear, you said 90 degrees and not 180 degrees ?

So they should be in a Vee pattern.

I need to order another reciever to go with a Simstick at some point. I think I'll just standardize them so I can always swap them out. I'll put the R9 over there for now.

BTW my cats are pretty well set up for toys. The one they like the most is "Da Bird".

Cool - in your case cats eat the antenna - in my case a crash cut one off. So yes its $10 to get the antenna replaced by Espritmodel. I just send one receiver in and as I have been guided through the process -> you just have to follow the service option on the left and you will see antenna replacement as one option.

Since I had them placed nice once and a bad landing actually cut one off I am going to do better on finding places where the risk cutting them is lower.

My dog chewed all the foam out my Futaba case the other day. Took all of 30 seconds with me distracted playing with some settings. Hopefully he doesn't like Czech cusine.

I have changed the orientation of my antenna to one backward and one downward from the picture above for that very reason

I'd love a little more detail on how you created your little 90 degree tubes.

It looks like a really nice way to do this.

It is specific for the Kasama helicopter, but I am planning on using it in other helicopter, it will be easy to adapt.

The hole at the end is for my horizontal antenna, enter the antenna from the rear.
The hole on top goes right through, enter antenna from the top and it will be pointing down
The hole on the side allows you to mount it to the frame, it goes right through too.
The plastic tubing you have to find them they don't come with it.

As a public service announcement.
This is the infamous heli eater. Make sure to secure your gear if you see him coming.

It's not super slick, but close to 90 degrees and all the antenna wire is still there!

Get some antenna tubing, heat and mold two pieces to ninety degrees, pass the Jeti antennas through, and mount them on the frames somewhere...

I think it looks good but like the tubing idea too. I saw that done on another helicopter recently and think I'll do it on mine. FINALLY should be soon now that the goverment determined that the shipping container had radios in it instead of radioactive waste.
