Default How many amps are you pulling?

Ok, so I am not a HEAVY 3d flyer, but like to fly fast and basic 3d maneuvers along with hard punchouts. I honestly had not checked my ESC data much since I got my 550x flying the way I like it. I've got about 25 flights on it now. Tonight I downloaded the data, and it looks like I am not even hitting 50 amps peak. Granted, I have my CC 120HV setup on the simple gov. mode, so I don't know the exact headspeed. I should fix that, but I am flying at roughly 93% motor speed on the stock gearing. Does this seem crazy low? I am using good pulse 6s 5000 packs 45c that seem to work very well. I am also currently using KBDD 550mm fbl blades that have a much fatter chord than the revolutions. Just curious what others are seeing?

I break 150A fairly regularly. Never had a problem with those peaks on my Castle Phoenix Edge 120HV. Highest peak temps I see are 180 degrees max, which is a little warmer than I'd like, but that was also in the dead of summer last year. That was my first summer with my 550X and I hope the ESC holds up this coming summer as well as last summer. Don't see any reason why it wouldn't. 2100, 2200 and 2400 RPM, Glacier 5000s 45C and the stock 550mm Revolution blades. I do have more aggressive gearing, though. 16T pinion if I remember correctly.

Double check in the Castle software that 'smoothing' is set to off, it might be on and giving you false peak readings. Ultimately we want to know our peak highs to make sure everything is running how it should. Your numbers sound rather low, my peak from the weekend was 167amps, that's a pretty big contrast.

Crashcopterman, thanks for the suggestion--I will check that. It sure seemed oddly low to me. The voltage readings are correct, and the other data seems to be in line. I'll check settings tonight.

EDIT: I just looked on the demo mode at work and didnt notice any 'smoothing' options. I did have the logging set to 2hz, so maybe my sampling size was just too broad? It just seems that no matter what the sampling rate, I would have randomly caught some of the amp spikes. I know for sure that some of the punchouts are several seconds long--which should be captured even at 1hz frequency.

EDIT2: Ok, now I just realized that the smoothing feature is in the graph log (duh) and not an ESC setting. I'll need to double check that tonight.

Ok, so the curve smoothing was off, so my peak seems correct. When I entered the gearing info, it seems that my headspeed was about 1985. I guess I'll just keep flying it as is, but I definitely don't understand why my amp draw is so low.

Cuz your HS is much lower than average, by a whole lot. What are your 'power out' numbers?

Never looked at the power out before. Looks like my peak was 78%. Time to raise the head speed I guess? Isnt the max somewhere around 2200 with the stock 14 pinion? Are most people going with the 16 to run higher?

I think the majority run the 14 or 15, 16 is the minority. You definitely need to up HS, plus it will perform better, 1985 is pretty low. Efficiency will improve too, I'd bet your flight time would hardly change even going up to 2100.

I use 2100 and 2200 HS in my depending on how I feel like flying. 14T pinion. Anything less does not feel locked in.

I've hit 110amps with some sport/light 3d

Hi, i consistently see 110 - 115 amps.

I mixed in positive pitch (DX9) with the self-level on an IKON and had to active it today.

Ps. I've subsequently turned it down to only add 70% instead of 100% pitch.

I swiched to a 2100 head speed....wasn't sure if you could really get much more out of the 14 tooth pinion. The heli definitely felt weird after that. I had just been using the 'simple gov mode' and it seemed like a higher head speed, but showed much lower amp spikes. Now I'm getting used to the 2100 and it seems a bit slow, but I did see some 160 peaks in there. These were only lasting a split second and the average amp draw was in the 30-40 range. I think I need to try an 15 tooth and see how it feels.

The heli is a pig at lower headspeeds because it's a rather large/heavy 550 and only 6S in stock form. It comes alive at 2300rpm. I settled on 2400rpm in IU2.
