Bind issues with DSMX - Spektrum A2 Issue resolved
Hi all,
Im thinking there may be a bug on the Vortex Pro VX1 when binding with the newest (Gen 2) Spektrum DX7. I am running the latest Spektrum firmware on the radio, and running brand new genuine Spektrum DSMX sats. Ive had no issues binding this radio with two BeastX setups with DSMX sats. Radio is set to DSMX at 22ms (although the radio has 11ms capability) which tried that as well with the same results. I also have the latest firmware for the Vortex unit. Here are the symptoms: Binding using the datapod on DSMX - 2 sats, the radio says its bound successfully however the vortex is blinking red status light and throwing the "Bind Failed - Do not fly" code. If i bind as DSM2 instead, all works normally and the Vortex is happy so, I set up the bird fully while bound in DSM2 mode. Today I used Spartan Studio to re try the bind process in DSMX, the radio quickly bound in DSMX, the sats are solid orange indicating a normal status. The Studio software appeared to be happy because it jumped from "waiting' to 'ready' status after the bind. I continued on with setting up my bird once more just to be sure all settings were the same. All controls work fine, and setup went without issue using Spartan Studio. I then unplugged the cable from the datapod, and powered the unit and my radio down. Upon powering back up, the system appears to bind quickly, the status on the sensor goes to solid blue, and the status on the sats are solid orange. However - The status on the VX1 goes from purple to a flashing red. But all controls work as normal! Everything seems fine except for the status light! Im afraid to maiden the bird in this state. BTW its on a TRex 600N HELP? Thanks Jason Last edited by jayf636; 09-01-2015 at 06:50 PM.. |

That's a new one to me, what firmware are you running on the VX1?
If nobody here has come across this, and if Angelos doesn't spot your post I'd recommend opening a support ticket as that does sound a little odd. The only thing I can think is that you might have a bad sat or connection. If you bind with two sats, but the Vortex detects a problem with one I believe that will give the symptoms you describe. Have you tried binding with just a single satellite? It might be a good test to narrow down the issue. Also, if you have a known good pair of satellites you could borrow from another heli that would be a good test too.

Thanks guys. I will try what you described today after work. Firmware is v3.00 This is my first Spartan, and I updated the unit, the sensor, and the datapod first according to BK's tutorial videos.
I haven't tried these sats on my other birds, as i purchased them specifically for this build. Nor have I tried known working sats on this unit. Ill try a few different configurations and reply back with my findings. Certainly is an unexpected issue J |

That video is really helpful to clarify what the issue is. Only thing that I can suggest now is making sure the latest firmware is flashed on your DX7. Other than that, I have never seen this issue before either so it will probably be better to open a support ticket with Spartan and see what they have to suggest next.
