Cheap $49 700 motors arrived

http://rcsearch.info/hobbyking/i37461/

I borrowed Goblin 700 swash. Swashes sent from France on 13th Jan did not arrive yet

I bought 1m yacht:
HobbyKing - Phantom Sail Boat (4 min 10 sec)

My friend built Assault 800:

At last I have learned that prices of brand helis are related to small market and high demand...
I do not care. It is not my problem anymore.

My friend maidened Assault 800. At 1200 RPM was able to do tic-tocs. At 1600 RPM it did not break. Looks like he was surprised by good handling and performance. He performed 5 flights today.

I regret I was not the first one to fly 800 stretch... I am glad he is happy.

My concept seems to work!

It takes few hundred flights to get objective opinion.

From my experience there are two important factors:
- bearings
- magnets glue

I was replacing bearings in my Scorpion motors as well in Turnigy SK3 700. So no difference here.

In some small electric motors from HK magnets can get loose. It is mainly related to vibrations. It did not happen with SK3. We will see if it will happen with those Gartt motors.

Those motors have good NMB bearings.

Considering the price you can not be wrong getting one for test yourself. You get 5 motors for the price of one Scorpion.

Do not forget you can replace bearings, rewind it, use better glue if you wish...

Scorpion is selling "motor kits".

Thanks for this.

Your 800 looks good. Was it using this motor?

800 with TDR canopy is not mine. My friend was using SK3 T700 motor. After few flights his SK3 motor burned. : ( I think it is repairable by revinding new wires.

I was using three SK3 motors in my 700 helis. Hundreds of flights on each. One burned after hundreds of flights because I did not check bearings. Broken bearings finally caused total damage to motor. My fault. Another one required bearings replacement.

Once I burned YEP 120 HV. It was my fault because I used to long screws to mount motor and one of them destroyed insulation on wires. It resulted in short circuit via CF frame and ESC burned.

I did not fly with those $42 700 black motors yet. They are havier than SK3 and have. 4.2 kW.
I plan to test them soon. They are new at Hobbyking and cheaper comparing to SK3.

I have two Scorpion motors. I was already replacing bearings on both. One is in X5, another in 600 heli.

Thanks. I bought one at the buddy code price. I might use it on a Forza 700, when it's released.

Swash plates I ordered over month ago did not arrive. I lost my patience and started to fly with oryginal Gartt GT700 swash.

I knew it can break. Anyway in total 25 flights (10 today) with soft 3D and 700 blades did not break Gartt swash...

I am curious why? It should break ; )

Anyway I am going to put Align swash in stretched 800.

Update:
I'll keep Gartt with 700mm blades for a while.

I maidened Assault with 810mm blades.

After 10 flights with 810mm blades I do like this motor more than SK3 T700. 120HV regulator was becoming hot at higher RPMs but this $42 motor did not get hot! Sounds great. It is quiet and powerfull.

I have comparison with two Scorpions on my X5 and 600.

Scorpions like to get very hot.

For a pro high end motors can be the only option. For me those cheapos are far better option. I was already changing bearings on both Scorpions. They can fail. Compare prices

Thanks for the update. Cool, quiet and powerful sounds good to me.

Thank you Satsuma.

I am ordering third kit. This time Gartt GT700 without canopy, head and blade grips but with Gartt 700 motor.

Benji gave me DFC head from Assault. I ordered fusuno canopy. This kit will have new reinforced swash from Gartt Model.

For me this kit is already a game changer.

Probably I will not build third Gartt/Assault heli. I just want it as a source of spare parts for 700 and 800 which are ready to fly and kicking.

Update:

I have noticed that 530kV motor (rated max 95A) with 810mm blades stay cool but 120A HV Power HD regulator gets hot. Probably currents are below 90A but kV is to high and I set 50-60% throttle curve. Probably I wil replace Power HD regulator with YEP 120A HV because active free wheel can help to keep regulator cool.

I would prefer 450 kV motor but this cheap motor works fine.

Paradoxically I would have to set higher throttle curve to keep regulator cooler... ; ) This is really funny.

Canopy is nice but does not have fusuno logo on it.

Update:

Around 10 flights today mainly with 800, one with 700. Nothing broke. I like their sound.

Update: New Zippy 2*6S 4,5 Ah 30C lipos stayed cold after flight today. Plenty of power. I lowered throttle curve in Idle-up 1 to 55%-45%-55%. Definitely I prefer 800 at lower RPM. I also tried old Rhinos 4,9Ah 35C.

Weather was bad so I did not set my timer yet. I was in a hurry not to catch a cold. Usually I keep my lipos 3.8V per cell after flight and set timer accordingly.

Default 4,4kW 530kV $76.35

Looks good:
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...ter_motor.html

Logo 800 XXTREME:
sedma baterka (6 min 8 sec)

Update:
Power HD regulator does not have Active Freewheel. In 800 with new black 530kV motor it was getting hot. YEP 120A HV has Active Freewheel. It is perfect for 50% throttle curve I use. It is not getting hot.

In 700 I have 480kV motor and higher throttle curve. Power HD regulator is getting warm but not hot. I am happy again...
