Default 600 EFL PRO with EDGE 623 mainblades

Can hardly wait to try this out. I just finished stretching my 600 pro so that it could swing up to630 mains and up to 105mm tail blades. All that is left is to make a longer tail control rod.

Nice,

Can you elaborate on the parts you used to do the stretch?

I used a shortened and re slotted trex 700 boom, and a shortened 700 torque tube. I ended up adding 33mm to both.

I have been running those blades on one of my 600s now for a couple years. Fantastic flyer. Sadly the blades are no longer in production, lucky for me I bought half a dozen sets just before RH went under.

Thanks, that sounds quite straightforward. I didn't know the 700 boom was the same diameter.

they are just close enough, if I like how it works out I might make a dozen booms and tt's . the materials are not that pricey, and its always nice to have spares.

So for the torque tube I guess you just cut the alloy drive spigot off one end, clean out the socket in the spigot, shorten the plastic tube and epoxy the spigot back in place?

Anything to watch for?

that is basically what I did. I am not totally pleased with the results that I got trying to mod a 700 torque tube. I wasn't able to get the end to seat properly with out filing and distorting the tt by forcing the end into place. really DO NOT want to experience loss of tail authority in flight or spool up. so I am going to try a Easton 20/20 arrow shaft with the align ends, and epoxy. if I am not happy with those results I will have a local machine shop make up a few that will.

Default bad vibrations

so I got done building a new torque tube. ended up using an Easton 20/16 arrow shaft. and about 10 seconds into the flight I notice that the skids are slowly shaking in an elliptical pattern. hmmm so I try going from 1900 to 2200 head speed. vibrations went away. for about another 10 seconds. a quick hurried landing before fbl unit wigs out from excessive vibes. and back to the drawing board. Checked all shafts and bearings, all good. checked main and tail blades for balance. all good. All I can figure out is either my tt is way out of balance, or that my bearing support placement could be better.

How many torque tube support bearings are you using in the boom? If only one, try two. I am running two now in my stock pro and was amazed at how much vibe level went down not only on my v bar logs but visibly so when spooling up.

So 620's won't work on a stock 600pro?

Or is it 620's AND 105 tail blades?

I normally run edge 610's with 95's on the tail. this set up works only because I am not flying 3d. there is about an 1/8th inch of overlap.

Got 2 good flights in with the 623's and out of nowhere I am getting a bad vibe. perfectly smooth for about 30 seconds and then it just start to shake. guess I need to try a different shaft. too bad Easton stopped making the 20/20 arrow shafts. might try getting a reverse 7mm tap and just repurpose a 700 tt?

why not simply running a trex 700 boom and tt?

Thats what I may end up doing.

Other than needing to adjust batteries for the new CG and a little slower flip rate does anybody see a problem with this? The extra length may allow the 95mm tail blades to work better since they're further out there with more leverage....?

Any thoughts?

i have serious tail authority problems with 95mm tail blades. i'd try the 105mm ones.

originaly I tried this set up, I decided to try doing a 35mm stretch just because I didn't like how the 700 boom looked. even flew it for a couple of flights. flew great just thought it looked odd with a tail boom that long.

I really don't have any issues with tail holding. I really like to run my low head speed at 2150, idle1 2250 and idle2 2450. runs smooth no issues. just had my 150th flight with my basically stock set up.

I have some mates who fly hard the 600 efl and never noticed a tail blow out, and they fly way better and way harder than me. It depends on the type of maneuver we do. I have tail blow out when flying backwards I loop inverted. Also when pirouetting inverted flying backwards in moderate wind. Yesterday I replaced the front tt gear and autorotation to get a better tail ratio. Unfortunately the gear mesh is not right. Aligns seems to be developing a new 550 and 600, and I hope we may have new gears soon.
