130x main gear mesh mod/fix a double whammy ! Woot!

Mine seems to be one of the good ones out of the box... I will be re-checking gear mesh and I will be lubing the gears...

One point I'd add to the mod is to add washers to the motor mount screws, since you've lost at least 1/4 of the mounting surface of the screw (over 1/2 if you drill further than needed) and the motor could then flex in that direction or rip through the frame.

Only trouble I have had with mesh is when that plastic platform which is very flimsy IMHO has cracked or deformed. Also they seem to deteriorate if you get thread lock anywhere near it.

Last week I switched main frame and changed the philips head screws with hex socket head screws + washers.

I also reversed the pinion on the shaft, I can try to get a photo but the brass teeth were worn down badly where it met the main gear. I'm gonna make sure no oil gets onto the teeth (using dry silicon lube now).

My pinion is worn down as well. Was it difficult to remove so you could reverse it? I thought of trying that but was worried I might bend the shaft

I just got my 130 and the first flight I stripped the main. I thought that it cogged really bad and sounded bad. Last weekend I was flying with friends at the field and the tail let loose (30mile gust) and I had to hit hold. Yet no my main was stripped again. Made me wonder if the tail let go or if the gear stripped in the air. Well got a new gear and pulled the electrics out. OMG the play was nuts! What I did was take a xacto knife and cut a bit of the plastic away on one side. It was really easy and you don't have to worry about overdoing it. Now it is silk smooth and I don't think I will be having any more gear problems.

Me and Will was comparing temps and stuff before and after the mod.

Also oil all the bearings as you can tell they are dry bearings out of the box, you will feel the difference in your hands and while flying.

What kind of oil did you use?

I used triflow needle oiler and on the metal to metal gear I used VRP racing lubritooth. Don't know if anyone makes it anymore, but it's a graphite that you brush on and dries to the gears. On road cars used it on their exposed main and pinion gears. Mine is so smooth everyone at my club swore I didn't have the motor engaged lol!

just did this mod must say great find.i had a real bad tail vibe as well as alot of noise when spooling up,now it all seems to have been fixed quiet and damn near rock solid.

While holding the 130x and checking blade tracking, the motor bolt on one side broke through the frame. I found the perfect washers. The head shims that come with the feathering shafts on the blade mcpx. It's been holding ever since and I didn't have to replace the frame and/or buy the reinforcing plate.
