Default What is the definition of a 600 "PRO" Class Electric Helicopter?

Hi,

I'm just wondering what the difference between a 600 Class Helicopter and a 600 "PRO" Class Helicopter is. I don't understand why some threads go into this forum, and some go into the other one. What's the difference?

Thanks for explaining!

It depends on the specific manufacturer. Different manufacturers will have upgrades not available in the basic kit...maybe frame reinforcement, metal blade grips etc. But in reality, the "pro" designation is a marketing term to get you thinking it's a better item than it really is...this is in all kinds of products, not just our heli world. Just because it says "Pro" doesn't mean it's a kit actual pro's use.

So if it is just markting, why is there a separate category in the forum?
And what qualifies as "PRO"? Everything that has PRO in it's name? That would be a really lame definiton.

I'd agree that people can be lame. You'd think that people in general would research a product before purchase and not be too concerned about product names but this just isn't the case. All you have to do is look into the companies that use pro pilots as advertising agents to understand advertising/marketing....people want to "be like Mike".not sure.

Can't tell you why there is a separate "pro" forum...ask the people in that forum. But if you look into various hobbies, tools etc, it's a marketing thing..."pro" makes people think it's better. It's no different than calling something the "gold" or Platinum" or "titanium" edition...doesn't mean there are those elements in the part.

This forum was basically created after Align released their then new 600E PRO heli which was a new version of their 600 class machine and was so different from the older one that they figured out it needed its separate forum. The reason as to why they named it like it includes all "PRO" helis is something I don't really understand though.

At the time the forums were created, Align helicopters were the ubiquitous brand. So the generic forum for 600's was mostly discussing Align helicopters. Other manufacturers of "boutique" helis got their own forums, specifically named for them, and eventually this forum became an Align forum in practice. When the 600 Pro came along, it was significantly different enough to warrant a subforum, as Heli.Maniac said. I'd like to see the 500, 600, and 700 class forums reorganized as subforums under an Align forum, but I think that things have been this way for so long now, that that will never happen.

I fly the older 600 ESP, so you'll see that most of my posts are in the 600 Class Electric Helicopters forum, and I don't post here nearly as much. (Although I do read it, since some of the parts are compatible, and if there are problems and/or fixes that affect me, I want to know about it.)

The 500 class forum is setup exactly the same way, and we are regularly fielding questions by people asking about their 500 sized Compass, Protos, Blade, etc. helicopters.

Thank you, that is a very good explanation, now everything makes sense.

I agree with you that the forums should be reorganized. Maybe the easiest thing would be to merge the PRO forums with the respective non-PRO forums. I suggested that here, maybe you can support me there or make a different proposal:
