Default Protos 450 Predictions

With IRCHA right around the corner, rumor has it MSH will release a 450. Just for fun, I'm taking a stab at what I think it'll look like:

-Swings 350 or 325 blades. Kit comes with 350's.
-Supports 3s or 4s
-Single belt drive, no torque tube
-Carbon fiber frame
-Can do autos! (close to a Rave)
-Combo kits provided with ESC, blades, motor (Still Lipotech).

Owning the Rave I kind of miss the belt. I tend to tear up gears. Not the best at landing.

"(current margins are very low, and LHS are resistant to pick up the brand because of it)"

I don't know who gave you this info but this is not true.

Corrado,
I tried to talk my LHS into carrying the Protos, and when he looked into it, he was moaning about small margins, expensive shipping, etc. He's a ltitle crazy, so I wouldn't be surprised if he exaggerated. Glad to hear there is good margins and reasonable prices for the end users as well.

Sorry for posting any mis-information. I'll edit my original post.

I would much rather see a 600 as well to compete with the Logo 600 but with much more reasonable prices. The 450 size is just way too crowded and played out.

i agree,a 600 or even a 550 would be great, the market is flooded with 450s and a reasonably priced 550 or 600 would be great.on the snap, that is a bs line all hobbyshop owners give,it gets you off their back and if the ever do get it,it gives them a reason to try to ram you,i once asked a shop to make me a packadge deal and he complained about a 10% discount, then when i was selling something to him he told me he wouldnt carry anything on his shelf without a 30% markup,i never went back

A 500-550 is a good choice. Only a few are available at this size. I don't even fly my 450 anymore my Protos basically replaced it. I had a Hurricane 550 and I sometimes I miss it for a mid size electric.

I love my Logo 600 its a great machine. Low noise as the Protos and it too is light and powerful, expensive yes I have over 2k on it without batteries.

I can see myself dream of running a pair of 6s 2600 Protos pack on a Protos 550!!!

Default 400 is great size!

Afew reason why 400 is best sized from the eyes of a company:

1. Biggest market size with respect to potential customers because of low overall prize.
2. There no perfect 450 out there... (i my opinion...)
Rave is too expensive, 450 Pro comes close but is too heavy, Furion has too many
parts.
3.You can fly it almost everywhere which makes it a good after work flyer.

So here is what i think it should look like:

1. Simple even lower part count than protos500
2. light, overall layout could be the close too current 500
3. made of plastic: for this size plastic is more than strong enough and good molds reduce part count.
4. all belt drive

my 2 cents..

That is usually what a shop owner answer when it doesn't want to take the extra work of another brand in his shop.

Most shop owners just won't stock anything that isn't distributed by Horizion or Great Planes.

I'm in the 450 camp also. 600's are still above my cost pain threshold.

What I really want is a "big" 450 like the Rave. But the Rave kit and parts cost more then the Protos, so I won't consider it.

I want something i can beat the , but still have it fly and well and do great autos. Parts need to be cheap so I can stock up on them. I also like the idea of running a 4s power system instead of 3s.

My Blade 400 is getting long in the tooth. It doesn't fly that well any more, and lately something has failed every time I take it out. Yesterday the tail exploded because of a failed bearing. I need a new lunch time "pocket" flier.

Yes, the market has a ton of 450's, but there is a LOT of room for innovation and major improvements. This year, the first FBL system targeting small helicopter is being released (probably with a Mikado 300), and this is just the beginning of some major changes.

Another vote here for a Protos 400. If it [optionally] swung 350s that would be fantastic.

I don't have the cash or the space to fly anything larger than the 500 and even that gets less flight time as I can't use it as a boot of the car heli.

A 400 size would be nice but a 450 with the possibility to switch 325 to 350 at a reasonnable price could be a perfect choice for me.But 350 blade size will be to close to the 500 size, isn't it?
