Default Last stupid question of the year... Honest. 6s conversion

Changing my stock mini to 6s. Am I right that all I need is the MSH 6s motor and 15t pinion?

Do I need to reprogram the ESC? (currently on standard settings,r except now on soft start)

HAPPY NEW YEAR! (well in Fiji it is)

You will certainly need to get the YGE to re-learn it's Gov Store calibration if you are using Gov Store

No other changes?

ESC cell count setting would have to change.

Default Hmmm

I have a 4S and 6S Mini. Had to switch em around a couple of times. I do change the cell count in the esc which involves unplugging the ESC from the FBL and plugging in the program card. I don't reset the endpoints. That's about it And I use the 15t pinion on 4S and 6S motors. Running 22 - 2600 head speeds. Capable of more but if you want whacky head speeds then16T might be better.

Cheers guys! I'll go see if I can borrow a programming card. Much appreciated.

Edit. Looking at he YGE manual the ESC automatically detects the cell count - can somebody confirm?

Default It will

It will if it is set to auto detect. That's the default. I never ran it that way though.

What could possibly go wrong?

I know someone with the program card that has offer to lend it to me if I get stuck. So, I think I'll just give it a go. Thank you for the advice and Happy New Year. cheers, B

The esc should beep once for each cell it detects at startup.

The risk of running auto, is that if you plug in a deeply discharged battery, it will auto detect one cell lower than the battery actually is, and the LVC will be set far too low. If you fly, you will probably kill the battery before LVC sets in.

Just make sure to use full batteries and listen to the beeps. I think the esc is in auto by default.

The YGE can also program many settings from the transmitter (but not all). I'm not sure if cell count / auto detect is one of these, but you can look it up.

That totally explains why I'm getting a mixed message from the manual.

I can't select the specific number of cells without the program card. With the radio setup I can chose auto, LiFe and another (I forget the third option).

I'll program at the first convenient opportunity, but setup and get going in auto.

Very much appreciated, B

Wow, just did the switch to 6s, timed a flight, recharged and did the maths... Says I should be able to get 8min flying time (big air) using 80%capacity. I'm impressed if this is true!

Seems like a lot, but not unreasonable with big batts and low headspeeds.

I'm thinking 1600mah and 2200 rpm...

Ah, forgot to mention the battery capacity. Only 1300mAh. Not sure what head speed I've got, running at 75% throttle, 14t pinion... So assuming 90% efficiency, that makes it ~2,400rpm. I agree, it seems a bit optimistic. I'll set the timer for six minutes and see how we go.

Care with that 14t pinion, they are said to be crack extremely easily, 15t is the smallest pinion recommended on the mini.

Silly me, as in the OP it's a 15t. Too much excitment.
Definitely getting 7:30min out of this setup, absolutely stoked. Smooth and strong throughout the flight, absolutely no drop off on power. Love it! This was going to be my beater, but it flys so sweet.
