Idea - use HCP100S board in Trex 150

OK so I loved the way my trex 150 flew, walking speed inverted backwards circles like inches off the ground in my back yard, funnels that almost clipped the trees on all sides, it was amazingly precise and great flyer.

BUT (yes, there's a but) the mrs main board crapped out, I bit the bullet and spent like $100 or something on a new one, but it wasn't many months before that new board crapped out again, at this point I wasn't willing to spend that kinda $$ again.

SO it seems that the hisky hcp100s is a brushless tail brushless main heli with a board that can bind to DSMX via a sat. Now to me that sounds kinda similar to the MRS board in t150?! I wonder if it would be feasible/worth it to swap in the hcp100s board? they cost only around $30.

I have NOT tried this in any way shape or form lol, I am not saying this works, just an idea.

tl;dr - lets try swapping a hcp100s board into t150 cos it's cheaper.

That sounds like a great idea. I've always thought the same thing but wasn't sure which heli would be the right fit.

Just looked at that heli and I don't think that would work. Because it uses the linear servos like the Blade Micros. I might be wrong though.

The only issue that really sticks in my mind is the operating voltages of the servos.
Do they both require the same?

Another thing is the servo layout.

Example the 180CFX and the 130x layouts are 180 degree opposites.

I don't think the linear vs rotary servo is an issue, as far as I understand, the signal supplied to either type of servo is the same. (People used to swap out the linear tail servo in 130x with a rotary all the time and it was pretty much change the connector and go from what I understand).

HW, I think you've nailed it, servo layout is not the same, hcp100s uses two servos at the tail side and trex 150 uses one servo at the tail. Nicely spotted. Just off the top of my head I don't think there's a workaround for the wrong servo layout?

What aboot using a Blade MCPX-BL board?

I'll be putting one in my Assault 100, to get away from compatibility issues, and servo creepy-ness.

The mcpx bl board is vertical mounted and the other boards are horizontal. There is no way to mount the mcpx bl board on that frame.

Yup I eyeballed it yesterday. Pretty sure you can't fit mcpx bl board into trex 150 without some major crazy hack.

not as a sirect bolt in, no. i made a mount for the board, to install it vertically. So yes, a major hack.

The board worked, but the servos do not. Hisky vs HH war I guess. Don't matter now, my new radio runs the stock board great. Don't know about the tail deadband, as I'm waiting for a new tail motor. Coffee table took the the original out.

I'll use the mcpx-bl boar on some other flying concoction.

This is the specs from the Align website.

The Blade helis linear servos operate at 3.7 to 4.2V.
Not sure where to find a board that runs the servos at the 150 specs.

Put the stock 100s board back, but bought a new DX7, and it works great. (more money spent)

Deadband: -60expo, 50%travel. I like the way it feels now. Haven't messed with curve yet...

Mods, mounted the board with a blob of silicone. Vibe-proof

As for expense, all hobbying costs. $80 here for a board experiment, $200.00 there for brazing capabilities, $400.00 here for tough rock crawler parts, Endless $$$ in fuel for 1/8 buggies.

Great idea.
In my mind, at first, Trex150's MRS board install hcp100s because of gyro performance.
But it's expensive way, as you said.

Set to Hcp100s board on Trex150, I think there are something to consider.

1. swashplate CCPM angle.
Hcp100s has 140 degree angle(not exactly), but Trex150 has 120 degree.
Maybe can't touch gyro mixing, so TX settings would have to change.
Swashplate reverse looks like not important, I think.

2. Servo power.
My Hcp100s Servo voltage is 4.94V(battery at 7.79V).
Voltage is within operating range, but current is not enough.
Trex150 servo consume more power, so put a circuit for servos.

3. I think I'll suggest to use HK heli board.
Like HK K110 is similar layout to Trex150.
I think that is more easier way.
