Default Strange short power drop out/500e

I have been chasing a strange short power drop out for time without any luck:

In the winter time I thought it had to do with cold batteries, or warming up ESC etc. , but the problem has resurfaced now in summer time.

In mid flight, and now I have noticed always around or a smidge above mid stick (zero degrees), I can get a very short power drop out lasting about half a sec. I am getting so used to it that I am not getting scared any more... So far power always come back, but the flying gets a little bit more stressed. It happens with all my batteries, freshly charged, and right from start of flying to the end, around 5 times on a 5 minute flight typically...

I have pulled firmly on all the wires to and from the ESC/battery/motor and everything seems fine. Nothing, no connection seems warm after flight at all either except for the battery off course, and normally a bad connection will get warm. Also that the power repeatedly comes back within half a sec does not sound like a bad connection to me...

The Rx is showing solid light after flight.

I have fiddled with flat throttle curves of 80 and 85, but no difference here. Setting the ESC to a lower cut off value (2 options exist) did not help either.

I like flying some speedy circuits but does not really dare much other than puttering around with this problem.

Could you pls. help me trouble shoot this strange problem, thanks!

PS everything is stock on the t-rex 500e, eg, esc is the Align RCE-BL70G
Batteries are quite new 3000/6s/20c

Are you running governor mode with the Align ESC? What are your motor temps?

Thanks, I will try with a re-calibration of the ESC. (it is a flybar model).

Thanks, Do you think they could be bad, when I can give them a firm tug no problem?

Any advice on resoldering the bullets in a way so they can be re-used? Do I just peel off all the heat shrink on the bullet, and heat up the bullet until I can pull the bullet off the wire? Sorry if it is a stupid question, but I have only soldered ec3 connectors so far ;-)

No governor mode. The motor is only luke warm after a flight (my little blade 450 motor is way warmer afterflight)

I had a problem that sounds just like yours. It was a poor solder join on my ESC.

Thanks a lot!

I re-programmed the ESC today and apparently it solved the issues. At least I could fly all my batteries without any power drop out today...

If the power drop out re-surfaces I will re-solder the ESC joints. Was yours a bad bullet connection or connection between wire and ESC?

Thanks

Mine was between the ESC and the battery. It pretty much pulled out of the XT60 connector with a slight tug! Lucky it never let go in air!

Best of luck

Bugger, was out flying yesterday and the power drop out came several times again. So reprogramming of the ESC was apparently not enough...

I guess I need to dismantle the ESC and resolder. Any tips on this, I would like to re-use the bullets? Do I just peel off all the heat shrink on the bullet, and heat up the bullet until I can pull the bullet off the wire? Sorry if it is a stupid question, but I have only soldered ec3 connectors so far ;-)

Thanks.

Could low batteries on the Tx cause my power out problems? I just found out flying on Phoenix that my cyclic suddenly behaved very strange and reversing. Calibration of the Tx showed it when from full elevator to no elevator in one step no matter how slowly I moved the stick.

Changing batteries in the Tx cured the problem. Now it calibrates fine. On old batteries it showed a voltage of 5.0 which should be OK I guess?

Thanks!

After months of chasing this problem, it looks like I have found the issue:

After replacing the receiver (Orange) with a Spektrum AR6200 the heli has been flying with no power out for 5 batteries now. I hope the problem is solved by Rx replacement ;-)

Yeah, ya know, I know alot of guys have really good luck with Orange Rx's, but I know a few who had alot of issues with theirs out of no where...replaced it with a Spek and its been fine... guess you could chalk it up to " ANY Rx can have issues.." but its good to keep the info out there..
