Dead 80 Pro HV
I have a new Jive 80HV Pro. I updated the firmware to 1.8, programmed modes 1 and 4, and ran K-Config to set the output voltage to 8.0 volts and activate the governor. The ESC was then installed in a Goblin 380. After wiring the helicopter, I connected a 6S lipo to the Jive and the gyro began flashing purple which indicates the voltage was too low to allow the gyro to initialize. In addition, there were no initialization tones from the Jive 80. I reloaded the firmware and that went OK. K-Config will also recognize the ESC and I can save parameters to the ESC. If I pull the jumper after connecting the Jive to a lipo, there are no programming tones. The lipo is a new Pulse 1800 6S and is fully charged. At this point, the Jive will not initialize, I can't do any mode programming and my gyro continues to indicate low output voltage from the ESC. I think this unit has to go back to Kontronik for repair; however, I thought I'd post this just in case someone might be able to suggest something to try that I haven't already done. I hate having to send this back to Germany but that's the way it's looking right now.

What kind of FBL controller are you using?

It's a Spartan VX1e. If I power the Goblin with a 4.8 NiMH battery, all the electronics work fine including the Spartan. There appears to be little to no output from the Jive's BEC and again, I can get no initialization tones when the 6S lipo is connected. I know that after a firmware update, a Jive can appear dead until mode programming is accomplished. After a firmware update, one should be able to pull the jumper and get the descending programming tones even though initialization tones did not occur. However, I can't get any programming tones so cannot do mode programming. I've reloaded the firmware twice but that didn't resolve anything.

So can you guys share the cause and remedy please? The BEC in the JPro controllers are very similar to the Kosmik ones and boot at 5.6V and only ramp up after initialization. Some servo and FBL combos tend to not like this. Well documented everywhere and even Kontronik has "new" hardware in the BEC as a remedy.

A BEC should not indefinitely output <4 Volt; this is wrong. Besides the Vortex being programmed not to initialise, there is no guarantee that the receiver can operate correctly at such voltage and there are a number of servos that don't initialise cleanly if the voltage fails to reach an acceptable level. Finally, why isn't the BEC voltage rising to the final programmed value? The Vortex will resume initialization as soon as the supply voltage is no longer critical. Obviously if it doesn't start it means that the BEC is stuck at less than 4V. |

VBar Neo will do the same with a problematic Kontronik BEC. You can send it in for the BEC "upgrade", but I had a Kosmik 160 with the exact and well documented slow to ramp up BEC, sent it in and got it back with the same problem still there. A 2S 450mAh LiPo buffer pack can also be used to boot from first and then keep it attached as per Kontronik's recommendation.
All my other Kontronik ESC's work perfectly with or without the so-called BEC upgrade.
