Many thanks RCflyerheli, good advice.

I'm away from the machine now but when i get back i'll double check. I'm 99% i'm in DSMX mode already but will make sure.
As for the servo load, i agree.. which is why i'm baffled. But yes, will check the tail servo disconnected, and will also make sure the sample rate is set right. Good ideas.

Finally on Sats, i think i'm resigning myself to the fact that i will go that route.. Fast Lad Performance here have good deals on DX7s at the moment. and then i get to keep the DX6 to allow friends to fly!

Sounds like your experience is that Sats are fine with 3gX.. i just wanted to make sure before i dropped some more £££ that i wuldn't end up back in the same place, with sats browning out because 3Gx was eating all the power. I did reads that a full receiver has a power Bus in it which sats don't: if true, this would mean that sats are a less power hungry overall sysem than a receiver.

Appreciate your time, as you can surely tell i'm still quite new (2 years) to this game, and not from an electronics background. Mechanics fine, electronics.. dark magic! It never ceases to amaze me how many new things there are to learn.

Just an FYI: I was using sats with my 3GX when I had the issues. I still recommend upgrading your BEC, because (for whatever reason) the 3GX causes increased current draw from servos.

Thanks for all the tips, and taking the time to post the vid Chris.
I'll go down the BEC route for sure. I'm somewhat nervous of my soldering skills to fit it: i have bullet connectors, not Deans on all my LiPos and the ESC, so will have to break the wire and solder it in.

The other question with the BEC is will it work out of the box or will i have to set it up/ programme it? And if so, at what voltage?

Cheers
W

The Castle BEC has a default setting of 5.1 volts, so it should be good to go right out of the box.

Agree with Chris - 3Gx - V 3.0 and above is a power hungry biotch - if you sift thru the 3gx forums you'll see many tried to put these on stock Blades and what not - many, many, too many to count have met with brownouts - usually an external bec is employed after couple hard lessons...

Why can't you use sats with the dx6? They should bind up. You might have to use dsm2 sats unless the 6 is new enough to be dsmx. I am not up that much on the spektrum stuff so I am not sure why you couldn't. Not trying to start anything but it isn't the forzas fault either. It isn't the reason that it is browning out. If you took all that gear out and put it in another Heli it would do the same thing. Now if you haven't had it that long which it couldn't be that old if a servo is making noise why don't you send it back to JR Americas and have them replace it.? I am thinking they have a one year warranty on the servos. That is the first thing I would do is get that replaced. I have a friend here that bought one and we have a demon gyro on it with all the other stock servos Esc and stuff and it works great. While you are figuring out the sat deal I would send the servo back tho

Final update on this brownout issue... well, it took a lot of bench testing and head- scratching but i finally traced it to a faulty AR6115E receiver!

When the motor got up to speed, the vibes were causing what must have been some loose connection within the Rx to interrupt the signal.
It wasn't brownouts at all (I had mis- read the warning light).. the Rx was getting holds.

Switched the Rx to a different model (with a Satellite for safety), plus i had already added a BEC after thinking for so long that it was a power issue.. well now the thing flies great, new levels of power and precision compared to my Trex 450 Sport V2 (which is now dressed up in a scale body).

But as people here suggested, adding that BEC was a good idea, it makes the servos crisp and fast and is some extra peace of mind.

So alls well that ends well. Now i can concentrate on wrestling with the undersized stock canopy (!!!). And i do think the tail is a rare blip on otherwise faultless engineering from JR. Those little plastic links from the tail grips to the pitch slider assembly are very difficult to get tightened enough without causing binding.

But there's other threads out there for this issue...

I would scrap the park flyer receiver and use at least one satellite. A company called Lemon Rx makes quality DSM2 ($5.50) and DSMX ($8.80) sattelites.
