What other helis do you fly? Any of them use 6/12s? Any use 7/14s?
Most, if not all of the competition pilots are using 12s, and it seems that 12s is more practical.
14s will give it more power, but is not nessisary.

If you have other helicopters running 6 or 12 cell, I would stick with that.

Running 14S with KDE 700XF G3 505Kv motors and 4400mAh batteries. Flight time is 4:30 with 20% left.

I'm running a scorpion 4530-450le on 14s 4400 65c thors.

Just love the extra power , wouldn't go back to 12s personally.

If your building from a kit up and have to buy the a motor , definitely consider 14s.

Running 14s 4400mah because I tried it on 12s and didn't care for it.

Everything stays cooler, depending on how I fly, I can get 3:30 to almost 6min.

If you're taking your time, then I would go 14s and make this heli your beast that puts a smile on your face and with all the power you could simply tone it down and get the same power output of 12s with longer flight times then 12s.

I'm running stock pinion 450 kv motor.

Double check the headspeed with that 500 kv , the 8mm XX pinions are only 3 or 4 sizes.

(noting stock 12s setup is 520kv)

I use Mr. Mel Headspeed calculator and the HS I want as the starter. Then I check the PWM value in my Kosmik log until the PWM is around 85% at normal flight and 100% when I push hard. I ended up with 18T with KDE Direct 700XF G3 505Kv. My HS is set to 1850, 1950, and 2100.

Go 14s 4400mah.
The drivetrain is like a black hole that power goes into, never to be seen again.

FWIW I'm running 12S @ 5500mAh packs. With light blades (Helix 715mm) it has plenty of power and generally stays within temp. Flight times between 3m30s and 5m flying style dependent. If I really beat on it (those 3m30s flights) I can get the YGE 160 to warn of overcurrent, but only if I'm being truly offensive. I have a Kosmik 200 cool that's going in it this week - because I can.

If I were to do it over again I might go 14S, but I was originally sharing my 6S packs between the 700 Xxtreme and 550SX so that wasn't an option.

My guess about how you fly is that you'll appreciate the 14S setup. For many people 12S is fine. Just like 6S in a 550, people will say it can't be done, but it can if you're prepared to deal with high current and related concerns.

One amendment. If you're thinking of running 750mm blades then 14S is a definite must, IMO.

Where to get the 18T Pinion? Mikado is not selling it any more on there web site.
But with the Pyro 800-480 the 19T is not bad either I guess.

I would like to have 1350 - 1700 and 2100 rpm.

Find a retailer with stock remaining.
