Oh my - Frustrated
So after I had a brown out a few days ago (inside testing) I decided yesterday to go to the field for a range check and maybe a bit of flight. I did a range check from about 15 to 20 yards and all seemed fine. I'm not running governor mode just a low head speed with 65% throttle in Idle up 1. Practicing slow 3D and trying to better my Col management without beating the snot out of it.
I take it up for a bit of FF and switch to idle up, do a roll... and power cuts, and down it goes again. 3rd time - same scenario. I'm using an IKON with just one Sat. DSMX (placed close to the bottom left with wires hanging out past the CF). CC Ice lite 50 but using a WR mini g2 bec. Maybe the damn thing isn't wired right? My output from the BEC goes into CH3 on the IKON. And to top it all off. I decide on taking a look at my logs and maybe my dumbed up ESC settings via the castle link and I just can't get it to recognize the ESC. If I had enough hair I would consider pulling some of it out. |

sounds like a radio problem, I had a similiar issue over the summer with my frsky radio setup.
can you setup fail safe with your system? If so, as a test, put your throttle at it's lowest endpoint, and set that as your failsafe, then put the low throttle back to where it was. Turn on throttle input logging in the ice 50. Now when you fly if you lose power again, you can look at your log and see if you're going into failsafe if the log records a very low throttle point. move your satellite to somewhere else.

satellite placement
does it show that the satellite loses signal/flashing ? I had an issue with motor noise interference. Do you have a picture of the satellite placement?

I just took it outside for a test.
Idle up for about 10 seconds at about 65% - never left the ground, power cuts off but I still have control of servos etc. No blinking Satellite... so I guess that rules out the Satellite? I brought it in just to double check the battery cells because I flew on this batt. yesterday when I crashed. Still have 23.7 V on the battery. I went back out to try and reproduce it and no go. Let it go in IU for about 2.5 minutes and all was good. Here's a pic. |

issues
sounds very similar to the problem I was having but I am using a robird with 1 satellite. can you move the battery forward and try the satellite behind it? or try adding a 2nd satellite.

Aye.
I was using both pos and neg from the bec into the ESC. Just switched out the black one now using rd only. Can't you go both ways with this setup? Sorry if I sound stupid. First time BEC setup. I will try a second satellite up front... any suggestions for a good spot? I assume behind the battery frito? I guess I will have to do a rebind as well to add another satellite? CHEERS |

You need to plug in the black and red wires from your BEC into your ikon flybarless unit. from your ESC you do not want to connect the red wire you want to take that one out and connect only the black and white(signal) wires to the ikon.

different
Was yours wired differently I hope it didn't hurt anything if it was. You should probably check your BEC voltage to make sure that's good and also be wary of the speed controller you did say you had an issue with it.

Well in the beginning I just had the + and - from the BEC going straight to Channel 3 on the IKON and all 3 wires from the ESC going to the throttle Channel on the IKON. That was my own ignorance. In hindsight, what would that setup cause?
Based on a youtube video I changed my wiring to the + and - from the BEC replacing the ESC ones. All set up right now based on your last message. See what happens anyways, I just flew a full battery outside with no power loss. |

Both bec's hooked up at the same time,it would cause some issues, lucky it didn't smoke and fire!Glad you didn't harm anything and it should work a lot better now!

When you manage to get into the ESC set up. Check the current setting. It should be set to insensitive. I had my ESC shut down on the first flight of my 600, but since changing the setting to insensitive its worked flawlessly.

I think we all learn something from each others experiences like these. I don't think these are newbie issues. To me, the exeternal BEC adds complication that we all have to learn to manage. And, due to construction differences, each setup and different component selections can behave differently, making it beyond common sense. The last external BEC I used was a CCBEC Pro in my Outrage 550. I used a Castle ICE 100 ESC. I disconnected the red wire from the throttle cable to the receiver, and ran the power leads from the BEC to free ports on the receiver. It worked perfectly. It was helpful to get insights from other modelers before connecting everything before I did so. I could have easily made a significant error. I recalled reading Castle's instructions on disconnecting the red wire, and once I did so, it made sense to me.
I'd still prefer to see a second satellite if it were mine. Just seems these sats inherently aren't all that reliable...even though it doesn't seem to have been Brents problem.

I think the placement of your sat is a bit obstructed where it is. I would have it in a place that the antennas can be seen from both sides without carbon being in the way. Mine is on the underside of the tail block so the antennas point out either side of the heli.
