The head looks awesome. I'll pass on any piece of electronics that have the Align warning label on them, though.

Exclamation new align gyro

Looks like Align released another new product for January 2010. The align GP780 3D Gyro. Looks like it is the same as the GP750 but with better pirouette consistency and a few other features. Read more for full details.

FEATURES:
  • Brand new intelligent control logic providing dynamic gain adjustment by detecting current flying conditions, allowing for consistent pirouetting rates during chaos or other demanding 3D maneuvers.
  • Utilizes feed forward control logic to boost rudder starting speed, and increase response sensitivity.
  • Utilizes Silicon Micro Machines (SMM) sensor with excellent stability to dramatically reduce in-flight tail drifts.
  • Utilizes AHTCS (Active Helicopter Tail Control System) to compensate any drift caused by wind direction and force ,as well as unintended yaw induced by helicopter itself during flight maneuvers.
  • Tailor made specifically for use with high speed digital rudder servos. This gyro festures high sensitivity and minimal reaction time, fully utilizing the potential of modern high speed digital rudder servos.
  • Features 1520μs pulse wide and 760μs narrow pulse wide frame rate.
  • Digital/Analog servo switchable.
  • Reverse switch.
  • Rudder servo travel limit adjustment (ATV).
  • Delay adjustment.
  • Gyro locking mode and gain can be adjusted remotely from the transmitter.
1.Mini/Micro heli mode, suitable for T-REX250/450(“STATUS” Red); Medium/large heli mode, suitable for T-REX500/600/700(“STATUS” Green)
2.There are 3 kinds of 760μs narrow pulse wide servos on the market, including Futaba S9251, S9256, BLS251.

SPECS:
  • Operating Voltage DC 4.5~7V
  • Current Consumption:<80mA @ 4.8V
  • Angular Detection Speed:500 degrees/sec
  • Operating Humidity:0℃~65℃
  • RoHS certification.
  • Operating Humidity:0%~95%
  • Size:26×25x11mm
  • Weight:14g

Exclamation well more news on the align flybarless

Looks like one retailer MAY have the jump on everyone else. RCHeliGears is taking pre orders and has listed their retail pricing. Looks like they are stocking all three models for sale on Jan 8, 2010.
$333.00 T-Rex 500, $360.00 T-Rex 600 and $416.00 T-Rex 700
Esprit Models is now taking pre-orders as well with a $100.00 deposit, however no pricing has been announced by them. the site http://www.rcheligears.com/index.php?cPath=52

Received a nice present for Christmas this year – Santa showed up with the 1st Align FBL unit off the production line.
Set up is ridiculously easy:
Contrary to other FBL systems, the Align system needs the radio in 120′ swash mode.
Press the SET button while powering on – this brings you into the 1st setup phase. Here you set everything to zero. Adjust collective pitch to +/- 14′ by adjusting the swash %. For cyclic, simply adjust the aileron cyclic pitch to +/-14′, again by adjusting the swash %. Use the same swash % for elevator.
This completes phase 1.
Press the SET button to go to Phase 2 – setting the Elevator Limit. Simply move the elevator stick to full positive and negative travel.
Press the SET button to go to Phase 3 – setting the Elevator Direction. Check that the swash moves in the right direction. If not, reverse the direction by moving the stick to alternate the light from green to red (or vice versa)
Do the same for Aileron.
Swash done. Power off.
Power on (not holding the SET button). After power on, check that the swash moves in the right direction by tilting the heli. Swash moves in the opposite direction for both elevator and aileron.
Press the SET button for 3 seconds. This enters the tail setup. Simply set up the tail as you would the Align 760 tail gyro.
All done.
In the radio – set your roll rates by increasing or decreasing the swash %. Tail gyro gain is set like any other tail gyro.
Go fly.
The kit comes with a FBL head, sensor, control box, special servo wheels and a nifty “flybar” holder to check the pitch. At least you have a use for the flybars in your spare parts drawer…
Guys – this thing is the best thing since sliced bread.
the pics are the retail boxes form align

I'm kind of guessing the 500 model won't work for the 450....right?

If the actual prices are anywhere near these estimates, this would be worth trying.

I would presume the FBL unit has self-trimming logic similar to the new gyro.

On the other hand, if it is just a redo of the Gaui unit, no thanks.

I did not like the 700 pricing.

A well tested working vbar costs 474 usd + 94 usd rotorhead conversion = 568 usd for something that actually works.

The preorder price for a 700 fbl is 436 usd. That is 132 usd less.

What value has the unit? Say 436-94= 342 usd.

You can get a used vbar 4.0 very near 342 usd.

The 600 kit has a listed price on 369 usd and the 700 kit is 436. Why is there a 67 usd difference on the rotorhead?
http://www.espritmodel.com/index.asp...D&ProdID=12007

But the good thing is that they still say
"Full price unknown, remaining amount will be billed to you when the item is shipped."

I can't believe Align isnt going to provide us with a way to just modify our current heads or just sell the unit without the head.

what can't you believe? Did Align came out and tell you that already?

everything you read right now are just hearsay, a GUESS by somebody. There are no official words saying one way or the other.

Align has been very responsive to user requests. If we want it, they will make it.
