Default Magnum vs CP Fuel

A flying buddy and I used Magnum 30% (not the fuel that used a nitro substitute during the nitro shortage several years ago) for several years, around ten years ago with no issues. We went through hundreds of gallons of Buzz's fuel with good results.

We then switched to CP for several years. Also great results. Although, I did manage to seize a YS 91 3DS engine twice by tuning too lean after watching a Tim Jones video on tuning the YS 120SR. I went back to my old method of tuning that I had no problems with. With the CP, RC Bearings SS engine bearings last around 200 tanks. The seizures had nothing to do with CP fuel, just my stupidity of running the 3DS too lean. The bearing life seems OK to me, also.

Recently, I switched back to Magnum 30%. Way cheaper, Buzz is super easy to deal with, and I like the new 5 quart jugs. I no longer need a base to keep from tipping over while using my Slimline pump attached to the jug with a LiPo on the handle.
Magnum produces the same power, temperatures are the same, and duration is the same as CP. I did not have to adjust needles at all.

They are both great fuels but don't overlook Magnum.

Just my $.02.

+1 for Buzz and his fuel. I've been burning his 30% Heli mix for almost a decade now.

Reminds me - I need to call him this week to secure my yearly fuel purchase down at IRCHA.

Appreciate your post. Many of us haven't had enough nitro experience to know how other fuels perform beyond what we can get locally. I am going to keep in mind this for a possible IRCHA purchase as well.

Just wondering which Magnum Heli 30% you guys have been using? I have a flying buddy that has been using the 30% DS, which has 2 or 3 % less oil, and he thinks it has contributed to him seeing early bearing wear and failure. I think the DS has less true nitro content than the Heli Plus but he says it still performs great.

I just got off the phone with Buzz @ Magnum - he will NOT be at IRCHA 2014.

Thought I would pass along the info for those whom were planning on purchasing fuel from him at IRCHA this year.
