Default OrangeRx R710 Spektrum DSM2 - any good?

I was looking at a plane on hobbyking.com and I have a DX8 was wanting to know if anybody had any issues and is this worth buying OrangeRx R710 Spektrum DSM2. Cost on it pretty cheap but like all things in this hobby going the cheap route does not always pay off. Anybody using this.

yes, no issues, even fly them, on a 500 + sat.

610s are dodgy at times though

Ive got some smaller planes, and epo, they all use orange rx

but on my 35% gas I use a proper spektrum + 2 sats

Thanks andersn - been a heli guy but starting to get into planes getting ready to buy a T-28 Durafly and the Spektrum are about $50.00 so the Orange on HobbyKing around $20 thought that was a good deal. Just wanted to make sure it would not crap out on me. In the past when I bought cheap heli stuff thats what I got was cheap parts. Guess I will have to give this little Orange dude a try.

Thanks

I have been using them in small foam airplanes (things not worth a lot of money and not capable of doing a great deal of damage, should the receiver fail).

I have about six of the five dollar receivers, about half of those have satellites.

I have never had one glitch, even at fairly crowded fields.

Still, I would not put one in a helicopter (unless a lot of others do is successfully, first).

I use several of them on foamy plane. Pretty satisfied.
The only advice is to use it with satellite. Once I crashed a foamy because the little antenna was pointing to me and shielded by the motor. Lost the connection. It takes three - four seconds to re-gain the link, but it was enough to see the plane going down in fail safe attitude. No big damage anyway

I wouldnt put one in any heli, but every one of my 30 + planes has an Orange rx and the big expensive planes get a orange sat as well. And I fly these 2 metre wingspan planes a lot further away than my 550 helis (the biggest I have).

I've never had a glitch, not even close. But part of getting your plane wings is having the instructor hit your throttle cut and making sure you can land it it safely 3 times in a row. Try doing that with a heli!, and that's why I still can't bring myself to put an Orange rx in a heli.
