Looking great DJ.

Would be great to get it a little lighter specifically for Quad use, though I understand that this will probably drive up the costs.

so... a tilt/roll mini ring "lite" for quad use with perhaps a 6 or 7 ounce target design limit? Let me put that in the creative brain bank and mull it over.

DJ,

Yup thats correct, I (and maybe others) don't mind paying a premium for the weight loss (eg. price of carbon vs G10).

Building the ring is of course one part, fixing it to the quad is another but I assume that a large amount of the serious quad owners will be able to come up with that solution themselves based on their quad design.

Happy to work on this with you since its something I have been thinking about for a while but never found the time to build though I did start prototyping a mount which in the end I was not 100% happy because I did not have a good solution for roll compensation. Proto was in GF, final would have been in CF for the weight saving.

Maybe the ring can fit into my existing fixture?

Thanks,
Serge

OK cool,

Let me bring up my drawings and see how that would fit. Sounds like its a bit bigger but the change should be trivial.

Weight as shown not including the mounting arm is 13.5 ounces. My calculated weight projections were almost dead on. Weight with the aluminum/carbon mounting arm is 16 ounces even.

I know you guys are wondering about cost. I'm going to work out the materials and manufacturing costs later this week or early next week.
I would love a CF version of the mini.Regardless of cost. And maby some red alu bling like the 2x CF version.

Hi PS1,

You can count me in if you are doing a quad version. The ring is a much needed kit for the quad market.

Ben.

I had to stall this project for a couple weeks. Got a couple contracts to build some turnkey systems which are due mid December.

I do intend to get back on it though soon. Also I've been working on the large 3 axis gimbal.... I think that one is going to surprise everyone.... the 3rd axis is rather unique.

Finally after a few weeks of delay while finishing up other tasks, I've had the chance to finish up the mini ring gimbal.

Finally have worked out the final production version of the 2 and 3 axis mini ring gimbals, now named the "Meridian" gimbal.

The production version was scaled up slightly from the prototypes to allow for the use of small DSLR cameras like the D40X. Small HD camcorders fit great as do any point and shoot. I believe these are the smallest ring gimbals you can currently buy.

2 axis and 3 axis versions. Tilt and Roll axis are proportional servo driven via a programmable Hyperion metal gear servo. The pan on the 3 axis version is non-proportional (continuous drive). tilt has around 110 degrees of total travel and roll has 60 degrees (30 each side of horizontal), however, for portrait mode shooting you can convert the inner ring to 90 degrees vertical in a couple seconds and still retain about 45 degrees total roll travel.

Weight for the 2 axis is 11 ounces. 3 axis is 14 ounces. Overall outside diameter is approx. 8.5" Machined from aluminum, G10, with stainless hardware and ring bearings.

Price for 2 axis is $419, 3 axis is $495.

We'll have adapter attachment kits to fit these to the Aerio X and 2XPT camera mounts.

2 axis version shown below.

yes! it even fits an Apple Magic Mouse!

Awesome to see!

I was just wondering about the red line going into the d40x. Is that how it is connected to remotely trigger the shutter?

I am looking forward to purchase this ring with adapter for Aerio X.

Could you post some short video clip with this ring demo, please?

Thank you.
