Default Flights on your birds

Since owning the 800 how many flight (excluding tuning) do you guys have on your heli's. I am very interested in getting one but I want to hear from the owners how often do you fly it ? and if you guys have any issues that keep you from flying it as much.

Thanks in advance.

I have about 30-40 flights on my bird now (Only reason I don't fly it more is that I don't have multiple batteries for it)

The ONLY thing bad I can say about the XX is the YGE to V-Bar Gov soft start (They are working on the issue I think)

It has/had a bad tail kick to it when starting up (The kick was anoying on grass but almost kicked it around into a 180 on cement)

I can say there isn't much more of a bullet proof power train (I chipped ONE tooth off the main gear in a crash that mangled the machine and sent the main gear spinning off about 40 feet into my wifes flower bed. I could have still used it but decided to replace it while I had it taken apart)

Rock stable (My friend who is a REALLY good pilot has told me several times that manuvers are just so smooth and easy on the XX)

That said though if your looking for a 3d monster machine that is stupid fast/nimble then the XX isn't the right Heli. It's supprisingly nimble FOR AN 800 SIZED machine.

I'm at 55 flights on the XXtreme.

I'd like to fly it more but i only have 2 packs. No ac power at the field so charging at the field would be a long time on 12volts followed by an even longer walk home .. lol

I take the quads to toss about , 130x , and the logo 600 3d so i get my fill.

I'd like to get some more packs and plan to.

It took about 20 flights to get over the jitters of a big heli that costs alot more to crash , the with a little tuning of the vbar (agility to 100 , +10 on the tail) it flies great , i can do smack box tight 3d with it so much better than the 6003d ( i love the 600 3d and thought it could never be replaced but the 800 is really making me think it over. I think the 700 will be the sweet spot ) Tracks great and i do find learing side tocs and tic tocs a bit easier.

As long as your not holding yourself back because of a crash possibilty , it will do anything you can throw at it.

I'm a huge jive esc fan , as much as i'd like to goto a kontronics esc with it's butter smooth spoolup , at $800 i'll be pre spinning the blades and dealing with the tail kick on startup. I don't like the kick as much as the nect guy , but once your flying all is good.

I´ve done about 50-60 flights in this year.

The reason is, I have no time because I am building my new house.

I hope I can do a lot of flights in October.

I'm at 211 flights on mine but who's counting So far the heli is 100% stock with nothing needing replacing so far. The Thor batteries have been great as well ... the 211 flights are spread out across 3 pairs of batteries over last 9 months and still flies like new!

Martin,

They are the 45C Thor's and they come down very cool after 4:20 of moderate 3D. Also, after watching a video I think from Mr Mel I got rid of the tail kick completely and I'm taking off from concrete.

I was considering the 45c packs also in either thor or gensace/pulse ultra

You mentioned moderate 3d , I think i'm working the poor thing a bit harder.

I did manage 4750 mah in 4:30 once , poor nano's were warm soft.

What version is your esc ?

I had ver 25 that came with kit and it wasn't smooth at all , kicks on dirt and grass, starting issues , RPM all wrong also.

Sent it in ( see thread ) and now running ver 27 software , smooth as butter , RPM in check , no more motor break on either. Set end points in software to 100 100 as per mr mel and it's perfect.

version written on caps with fine felt pen.

Sorry but I can't tell what version my ESC is ... mounted on the Heli and couldn't find anything without removing it. At any rate I bought it last August so that should give you an idea if it was around the same age as yours. I tried several Gens Ace batteries last year for my 700 and after 40-50 flights they started puffing and dropping cells. Before that they were fine but they did come down quite hot by comparison to the Thor. Also tried the Sky Lipos and had one batch that worked really well then 6 months later when I ordered two pairs they started dropping cells. Also had bad luck with the Turnigy Nanotech's ... some were fine and others dropped cells after only a few flights. For me the Thor's have been by far the best with Thunder Power 65C coming in right behind them.

What is your scale when you say " warm batteries"? I have by now (only) about 15 flights and my Scorpion 4540 gets about 80 centigrades, the YGE only 35 an the Thor 5.5 Ah are about 45 - 50 centigrades ( between 3. an 4.5 Ah discharged) ... which seems quite " hot" for me !?

The machine is great... just wonder how long the batteries will do it...

Dont count, but guess 150+

3-5 Times a month, 3-6 flights per Day at the Field.

So far flawless :-)

I took this at Helimasters. You are right about the 700. It seems to be the preferred machine for 3D. They only had one 800 and had the head speed down to 900 for demo and it looked like it was flying in slow motion then he kicked it up higher to show the power but no one used it for competition.

Finally found the version number ... v27 thus explains why I have no startup problems

I had one of the first seven that came over here last year and yes the ESC was terrible on spoolup other than that it was Great I was told there was to be an update for the ESC and I waited a couple of months for the update and attempted to tune it myself with no avail and sold it with about a 100 flights ,It flew very nice and is pretty well built, The update for the ESC came out after a year which was the braking point for me ,I had 4000 into a heli that spooled up terrible and sometimes not at all and would have to remove the Canopy and reboot, I was disappointed to say the least but its all fixed now .Fred Melin and Dave Dahl did try to help me out These guys are First Class! but at that time everything was so new and promises of this update were rumored to come out at any time, To Be honest I really liked that huge 3D Heli and it was a monster in flight id like another some day !
