LOL. I did not realize if you clicked sk720 black edition after it has been copied from web products page that it would go to expanded info. My bad! Anyway's what I copied and pasted is from the products page and it sure say's october. So how about an official statement to cool the fire skookum? That was all I was suggesting.

I am a BeastX guy. But after urging from a fellow flyer and doing a little research I would like to try out one of these to convert my 600. A reliable bail out is what I am after and my only motivation to change brands. The vibe analysis is an added bonus.
I understand that they had planned to release GPS first, but I hope that isn't the holdback for the release. for those already flying without it, I can't see a huge migration to add it. I imagine it is something users would add more likely to a new build. A new build also means a new FBL controller. So without available new 720s, why lay down the cash? If the time comes I am ready to convert the heli to FBL and Skookum isn't, then I will put in a BX and will leave it at that. |

I think this is possibly a pretty big issue for them right now. When you announce the next model is coming any time now, the sales of your existing models will tend to dry up.
My guess is that this lag time is impacting their bottom line noticably in the short term. By the same token, the cost to fix issues goes up an order of magnitude if they ship with an issue. My take on this is that they are showing restraint rather than turning us all into alpha testers just so they can make some short term revenue.

Yup it must be hurting SK. I can't think of a reason they should tie the release of the black edition to the release of the GPS.

Also over the past few months I see that uBlox has a new higher performance GPS unit. The old one was uBlox from the looks of the antenna so maybe they have elected to go to the new and improved hardware. Chasing technology is a never-ending game.

afaik the GPS won't work "better" on the black SK720 than on the old SK720.

I cannot believe that Skookum would be holding the release of the new 720 until the GPS is ready. There must be a huge percentage of people who will never buy the GPS and only want the 720 as a gyro system.
Skookum made the statement a long time ago that the GPS will work fine on the old 720 so if that is not true there may be some disgruntled customers out there. I know it may loose some customers but it would be nice if Skookum could come out with a definitive answer to their problem and a more positive release date for the 720. The GPS can come later for many of us. It may stop all the speculation from all the experts. |

the black would not offer anything beyond 6 axes data. the 7th belongs to the gps unit.

And from a customer point of view, that's a bad move. By the time the GPS unit is ready I could have bought 2 720 Black Edition.
But the reason why I'm so disappointed now is because I cannot find a blue SK720. My only choice now is to convince myself to try a HC3-SX. I don't understand theirs decisions. Quote:

I know the GPS might be sexy to some but personally I need the bread and butter first... People are so happy with the 540, I might settle for one then to.. But I really like to spend the money on a Black 720 if possible

Do you realize that my $1500 heli may never ever go down again ?
Seriously, no down time, no need for a 450 or a 500 to learn the maneuvers. No more stress, just pure pleasure. And next year, my scale build may be finished... But I do agree that's a lot of money. |

Personally I thing return to home bailout/failsafe is a very bad idea. Self-leveling is one thing, but if it can't detect obstacles or people there is a much higher risk of carnage if it doesn't just kill the throttle.

A reliable bailout system to me is safer a simple flick of a switch sends the heli to safety with auto climb, as long as you don't fly near anyone which is the first rule of flying. I do wonder though if vibes get high on the gps equipped heli does it kill the Harddeck, if so its a brave man that trusts the older sk720's. If they get a $1000 system that's as reliable as the hc3sx ill be impressed. |
