I note you didn't use a shim between the damper and the blade grip - I think you'll find when the damper holders bed down you will get a bit of endfloat and need those shims though it does depend on the precise length of the spindle - we're talking fractions of a mm here. Gerd actually describes preloading the assembly a bit so it feels just a bit notchy unloaded but as soon as it spools up the thrust bearings take the load off the radials.

I had occasion to take a blade grip off yesterday - when changing the spindle I damaged the shim that goes between the radial and thrust bearing. TO my surprise I was able to pull it off and push it back on again without heating - very snug fit though !! Just bake sure you don't bleed threadlock from the x4 grip M3 bolts onto the spacer otherwise you'll have a hell of a job removing it ! Same pricniple with set screws - keep the threadlock away from the end so it doesn't bleed onto the shaft eg on the motor pinion or tail rotor.

I wasnt sure about using the shims. I felt for the notchyness and it was just notchy without the shims so I decided not to use them. I will take your advise on board and check it again, maybe after 10 flights assuming I dont crash it by then I think I understand the logic behind it now, thanks. On spooling up the centrifugal force pushes the assembly lateraly and pushes on the thrust bearings and squashes the assembly a tiny bit thus giving the endfloat you describe? Hence the need for the shims. Very clever and well thought out.
I noticed that the feathering spindle does not extend fully to the end of the most lateral radial bearings on either side, Is this how it is on yours? I suppose on thinking about it, it allows tension to be applied to the bearing unit.

how is the lipo placment done? It seems rather unhandy to insert them and them try to put the rubber orings around them. Or are they attached to some kind of tray and inserted in a rail? Can they be inserted from the back so you could leave the canopy on?

Your backlash seems a bit too much to me. But I do not own a Diabolo.

It's very neat and easy - the o-ring cut outs have a horizontal slot at the bottom where the o-ring can sit flat - the stick pack is then slid in over the battery frame connectors (plastic rods x2) or the individual packs can be inserted over a ruler or just fed in - when in place the oring is just lifted up carrying the pack up - works really well

Smoothing the sharp edges of the cutouts well to minimise oring trauma is worthwhile !

Bag 10. Tail rotor. Straightforward build as per the manual. The bearing assembly has some endplay engineered into it. The bladegrips do not need to be heated. I needed to remove a bit of burr on one of them. There are chinese weights on the blade grip holders.

As with the main blade assembly. The wider ID thrustbearing retainer goes in first on the shaft

This concludes bag 10

Well Thats it, just have to do the electrical install, which is covered realy well in Johns pics with the build videos, and attach the rudder servo to the tail. Happy days.

Please double check your assembly: On the picture the thrust bearing sits between the radial bearings. This is not correct: the thrust bearing has to be on the outside.

Actually the original build online manual did have a thrust bearing in the middle - like the rotor head - having the thrust bearing between radial bearings is a common approach these days and gives a bit more rigidity to the rotor grip. Gerd must have changed it when he announced the supply of hex head instead of cross-head bolts for the blade grips - not sure how much difference it makes but I am sure he had a good reason !

Anyway the new order ( and note just the one washer now below the end-bolt) is:

Lesson. Use online manual.
