Default Is it worth while upgrade to get the 26t tail pulley for 700c?

Hi Guys,

Just wondering have many of you gone for the stock 27t to the 26t tail pulley?
does the tail perform better?

thanks in advance

I have both, and I found the smaller pulley only necessary when running less than 1900 RPM. Its not really any "upgrade" in any sense.

Its just a possibly needed tail ratio change depending on desired head speed and how you fly, no differently than changing main motor gear ratio to optimize your desired head speed.

I ran it on my non-comp 700 to get the tail turning a bit faster. Once I upgraded to the 700C it seemed the 26T was a bit too much with my gearing setup to get optimal gain settings in my FBL system. I'm going to switch back to the 27T soon to see if it settles things in better.

I used to run the stock 27t pulley, but last year Kyle Stacy recommended I switch to 26t and I found a noticeable difference. Much better tail authority, but by no means am I saying the 27t is inferior. The 26t seems to work better in tail heavy maneuvers.

If you're looking for more "tail authority" regardless of what headspeed you're running, you have 3 options...bigger tail blades , triples or "speed up" gear/pulley. Easiest to change is obviously larger blades. In terms of cost a speedup pulley is the cheapest. Larger blades only cost slightly more but it doesn't require disassembling the tail and adjusting the belt. Triples is the most expensive and most labor intensive to "upgrade" to but it's cool and reduces tail vibes.

Here in Europe we love the variety that Goblin offers, flying low and high rpm with the same setup. Low RPM starts at around 1400 here, and that's where 26T is recommended, if not required. When I started flying Goblins nearly three years ago, I once crashed because of lower rpm and standard 27T pulley... since then I always speed up the tail, that makes quite a big difference. If you're not flying over 2300rpm (which you should not anyway according to spec), you'll be fine with 26T.

These days I also run tribladed tail - that's one step further in tail authority. In those situations where two bladed tail cries loud, tribladed one holds as if nothing was happening :-)

I run 2000 and 2150 HS with 115 tail blades and the tail holds well with the 27t at those HS but I think it will be better with 26t so I will give it a go

well I put the 26t tail pulley on and I'm VERY happy with this heli now, for the last few month iv been trying to get it to fly just how I like it changing blades, HS, Pitch and agility(In Vbar) but still could not get it right.

Now with the 26t at 2000 and 2150HS she flys perfect! just how I want it to fly

Well I am at the field and just got 2 flights in with the new 26t pulley and 115mm rail tails. The thing is now dead locked in at both 1900 and 2150. Im running a Spartan VX1e 27t wasnt enough to get the tail as crisp as i like. 26t ftw!

The 26t is the best at those HS I love it!

I made the conversion from 770 to 700comp but i didnt change the tailpulley from 25 to 26/27t. @2300rpm the tail goes 3400rpm with 25t vs 3150 on 27t/3280 on 26t. will it be ok or do i have to change to 26/27t to avoid any damage? The tail really screams with that 25t pulley

How does the triples reduce tail vibe? Spinning less or weight distribution?
