Default Lynx tail set

Just pulled the trigger on a lynx tail set on sale now at lynxheli.com. Anyone running this tail? How do you like it? Any pitfalls to look out for?

I already have the control arm, and have broken a few factory tail cases and pitch slider sets. My only quarrel with the protos is if you have any sort of blade strike or tail strike and you will have to rebuild the head / tail. I don't mind changing booms, a belt or even a shaft but I prefer the weak link to be outside of the primary head or tail assembly, and would rather pull the entire head or tail and replace servo arms, tail control rod, a belt or a shaft.
My next project, final parts arrived today, is to put a full Metal X4 head on the Protos, I will be using sacrificial break away servo horns for this.

Thanks in advance for the tail jnfo.

I run the tail box, slider and pitch arm with plastic, thrusted bearing grips.
Probably going to change to Lynx metal grips soon.

Remember to check tail shaft shimming. With Lynx tail box, it comes with shims so you can adjust the clearance. I used 2 shims between gear and outer side of box. Assemble, then check for play, add or subtract shims as necessary. then do not forget to loctite bolts when finish.

No problems at all, extremely smooth operation. I too like a weak link, and with Protos always the blade grips. I have not busted a tail in quite some time and my last crash was quite violent tail in, and the Lynx tail was completely intact! Busted my CF boom and mangled my blades, busted blade grips and that was it. Even my Lynx Speed canopy survived without a scratch.

Recently became a Lynx team pilot, but must say, I have been using there products for quite some time and totally believe in their quality products. If you search some of my prior posts , you will see I have always recommended their products.

Any questions feel free to ask on forum or shoot me a PM,
Always glad to help!

Thanks for the info crickr1, I have been running the thrusted upgrade /plastic grips for some time. Not that I push my bird that hard, but it was an inexpensive upgrade.
I may stick with the plastic grips at least until I run out of spares.

Who hoooo the UPS man will be here tomorrow!

Lynx tail set showed up yesterday, oiled it up and put it and a new boom on last night, took an hour or so with my 2 toddlers in attendance.
Everything went smooth and fit nicely. I did have to make a small adjustment to the pitch arm bracket to keep the arm from rubbing the slider.
Flew a few packs today and could tell things were a bit smoother.
Prior to the lynx tail I was planning on coming down a couple points on I gain, also noticed a recently developed click was gone.
The stock tail is good, even if a little fragile, but the Lynx is definitely a cut above. The whole thing is slick and smooth, with a tough and refined appearance.

Still enjoying this upgrade? Was considering the entire assembly for some rugged precision.

Yeah its been really good and smooth so far, ended up i had a poorly threaded bolt hole i the case. It was imediately replaced by Lynx where i bought it from. First defect in three years and dozens of products.
i had the Lynx grip and spindle assembly send free shipping with the replacemnet set.

I can't say how it will act in a crash as i have only had a minor tipover due to an esd hit. Thankfully it had an uncommanded and harsh tail movement for a warning and was almost down when it really hit and took out gyro functions temporarily t-hold still worked.

But yeah i have run 20 flights ten with oversized tail blades and/or high tail rpm to support 500mm mains on a stretch stretch and all it well.
i think they are on sale for 70 something on the Lynx site.

I edited my post earlier but it doesn't look Ike it took.

One of the most impressive things about the Lynx tail set Is how the tail pitch is butter smooth, but at the same time almost completely free of any slop or play.

YEs Rob, still very happy. My P5 sees lots of airtime and Heli as well as Lynx tail has been flawless!
Most reliable go to heli

I saw this and thought about ordering it...

LINK

I don't feel like piece-mealing bits together. Just one shot and done with it. Kit is in box, so I can make it right from the get go.

What else do I need that's maybe not likewise from Lynx?

I ordered the complete tail, boom clamp, AR guide w/ canopy posts, turnbuckles, pushrod support, and a set of tail blades from Lynx last night. Ordered black for everything. Keep it true to the Protos style.

Are the stock tail blades most favored, or are there others that are popular? I've always thought their little swept tips are cool, LOL. Always been pretty partial to KBDD on these smaller tails.

Stock blades can be a little soft on the tail. Depending on your flight style could have poor performance. KBDD or Lynx have good blades for tail.
If you are using Lynx tail,(if I remember correct) you can run normal CF blades. THe factory tail grips are a bit smaller in width, so you need to get b;ades suited for Protos.

this is what I run on stock tail grips

I have the Lynx tail. I also have the Lynx blades, as well as the MSH 3k blades. Who's carbon 72's fit?

Also, I wonder about the weight of all the alum back on the end of the boom.

Stock tail is 4mm root so size is limited.
The Lynx tail will support up to 5mm, lots of choices there.
Zeal makes a nice CF set.
