Wasn't even all that bad a crash, I don't think. Little more than the usual suspects (you can generally count on blades, spindle, mainshaft, flybar and boom, of course). Beyond that I broke the floor plate and nicked up the tail blades enough to warrant replacement.
It is very fustrating to have these "WTF" crashes since you have no idea how it happened and how to avoid it in the future. Now I stand much further away from my helis when I start up or land just in case. I really hope all my unexplained crashes were due to my DX6i radio.

One nice thing...although the heli came down mostly inverted, there was enough impact to go around....but the floor plate and my camera mount (made out of cheap aluminum stock) acted like a safety cage and protected the camera.

I'm not sure I'll be able to unbend the mount enough to use again, but the camera's fine.

Teej,

Made it home, been doing a few experiments.
Assuming you have a basic setup other than your Alt.hold system, if you managed to maintain control of your bird ( inverted ) there is a possibility that the vertical sensor might be your culprit.

If it (VS) determines the air temp is higher than ground temp ( inverted) the system will try to compensate to level (inverted) flight, in your case inverted but the system is thinking it is up right and level.

That's pretty much my suspicion - confusion with the vertical. It's the only thing that explains the impressive effort the heli made to point the mast down.

And before anyone asks or suggests (I know they haven't), no, my vertical sensor did not shift positions. I used one of the plastic mounting tabs to hold it to the boom, then gaff taped the zip tie so that the sensor could not be rotated around the boom. After the crash it was still in place.

Get hold of FMA on Monday and inquire about sending it back for trouble shooting.

D'oh.

Just swapped out the main shaft & flybar....only to find that I appear to have bent the head.

Says you!

Yeah, put the shaft into the bearings and put the head on and spun it with my fingers...and noticed the head button doing an orbit. On the chance it was just the button, I took it off. Nope. Head still does wobblies. Heh.

That added another 30 bucks.

So... blades, head, spindle, main shaft, boom, tailblades, floorplate. Erf.

Still better than a taco pack and a flaming heli I guess.

Wanna try planting a 700 custom into the tarmac from 150' power loop, what happened to me when my Rx crapped out.

That was a $3000.00 dirt nap
