Default Skip Nitro and go straight to Gas? Advice needed.

I've never owned a nitro heli, and its 30 years since I've flown a nitro plank. However I'm an okay gear-head, so I'm considering taking the plunge straight to a G30.

Anyone else done it? Was it a steep learning curve? What should I watch out for?

I went from a foamy coaxial to a radikal g20. What I did first while I was building it over a long winter was practice a lot on the phoenix flite sim. I use a dx6i. Come spring I fired up the G20 and had very little problem hovering. Now after a couple years I really enjoy getting it up in the air and flying around. I rebuilt my son's venture 30 which is a nitro. The rebuild was fun. Finiky getting it to run right, but eventually ran good. The thing I really like about the G20 gasser is it's clean. Runs really smooth, real easy to start with a pull starter and is a very steady flying machine. So yeh, I'd go with a gasser machine if I ever get one again. Jim

For large helis I have an E640 running 12s, and a MD 800 running 14s.

Distructor I see no problem at all . The biggest difference is the tuning but if you take your time and do a little reading there will be very few if any issues. As far as I am concerned the G30 is the way to go and depending what you are after you can choose to go with a mag or electronic ignition. I really liked my G30 but someone came along and had to have it and I have yet to get it replaced . Someday
Take care

Thanks for the input guys
I think I'll fill out the 700 spot in my fleet with a gasser

Then you should not find it too much of a transition. Just take your time in the building of it and as Dennis said, the most difficult part of the learning curve will be learning to tune the engine, which really is not very difficult.
