Default Brass fan collet slipping - ideas?

Hi guys,

I have an old Fury 90 MA chopper with an OS 91 engine installed. I have been having issues with the two tapered brass collets that sit either side of the fan assembly slipping. As they slip, they quickly wear out the brass and get scored badly.

I have tried tightening the top nut on the fan the best I could and it works for a bit but again starts slipping.

Given MA parts are getting hard to come by and I cant imagine this being a difficult or unique problem, I was hoping someone on here would have an idea how to solve this

Cheers

Brad

Are you using the correct collets?
I've never had them slip on my previous birds, Extreme, Stratus..

On solution would be to shorten the collets a bit if they meet making it possible to compress the assembly a bit more. (But i don't remember how close the collets are)

The second and worst solution (when it comes to disassembly would be to use green loctite on the collets.
It won't slip but it will be tough to get them apart when needed..

They are definitely the correct ones.

I have found that the inner mating surfaces on the fan are a bit scored. Once it starts to slip, they wear very quickly.

I have ordered a new fan so we will see if this fixes it.
